I find first impressions very powerful because they build who you are in a person’s eyes. As my phone was ringing I was contemplating whether to pick up or not. I knew it was Alison because it was an unknown number, the fear of becoming friends and having to leave and lose her scared me but the thought of having no friends at all scared me even more so I took my chances and I answered the phone.
“Hey” It practically came out as a squeak as I’m not used to talking to people on the phone but I guess Alison didn’t realize since she was hyper. “Are you ready to have the best time of your life?” before I could muster a reply she continued speaking, “Text me your home address so I can come pick you up, it might be lame since we’re meeting at this new restaurant but still embrace yourself for a great day” She said hanging up immediately leaving me dumbfounded.
After finding something appropriate to wear, I head outside my house to wait for Alice in order to avoid questions from her about my family. I never got the chance to meet my father but my mom and step dad died three years ago and my mom’s best friend Bella took care of me ever since. I have to admit my life’s getting harder every year and we’ve been moving around for a while not finding a suitable place to settle in but I still try my best to live happily.
Maybe someday everything will be better and I might be actually happy so the only thing that gives me strength is knowing the fact that there’s a chance of being happy in the end. Deep down I know that happy endings only exist in fairytales but sometimes I prefer imagining my life as a fairytale instead.
Seeing Alison’s car stop in front of my house, I got up from the stairs and made my way towards her. I stood in front of her car admiring its purple color “Cool ride”. “Thank you, now get in we’re late” She said as she opened the car door motioning for me to enter. “Hey by the way, if you have your own car. Why did your sister pick you up earlier?” I couldn’t help but ask. “My car had a flat tire so while it was getting repaired my sister was my chauffer” She said earning a laugh from me.
“So… what am I supposed to know about your friends I’m meeting?” I said trying to start a conversation as she was driving. “Well, we’re only going to meet Luke, Noah, Lily, Jessica and Zach” She said. “Only?” I said startled by the amount of friends she has. Maybe they aren’t a lot but to someone that rarely opens up, they were too much. She laughed at my expression “It’s not my fault I’m popular” She joked. “But honestly they are amazing so you will be friends with them in no time!”.
“You still didn’t tell me what I should know about them” I said hoping they’d accept me. “Okay what I can tell you is that we come from different social groups as in Jessica is obsessed with fashion, Lily is a geek, Luke is a jock, Zach is silly and Noah seems shy but once you get to know him he’s amazing” I smiled feeling a bit relieved as I realized that maybe I might be able to fit in this time.
“Oh I forgot to mention that also Jayson is coming” She said as she took a right turn and stopped in front of the restaurant. “Jayson as in Jayson Parker?” I asked shocked. “The one and only” she smirked as she got out of the car making me regret this day.
