"Isn't there anywhere we can be alone." Damon whined when Anna and Elena almost walked in on us in bed. I sent a silent thank you to his excellent hearing.
"I know, I wanna take off, but I can't do that to Anna." I think I was sounding just as whiney as him. We really needed some time alone.
"She needs a baby-sitter? Can't we just throw her in the dungeon?"
My smile got a wicked edge. "Maybe you need to be thrown in the dungeon, dear..."
"Only if you come..."
We both snickered and wrapped our arms around one another.Anna walked in on us and sighed. "What are we gonna do about the two of you?"
"We could go to your hotel room, to get out of your way," Damon suggested quickly.
"Yes, please! I can't take anymore of this lovey-dovey." Anna rolled her eyes.
"You don't have to say that again." In an instant Damon threw me over his shoulder and marched out of the door. Need I say I was glad I had shorts and a tee on instead of a dress? I giggled as he put me down in the front seat of his car and was sitting by my side the next split-second.
Grovel spurted out behind the car as we left in a hurry. Not heading for the hotel, but for Damon's house of course; our secret hideout. Damon watched me as I laughed with my blond curls blowing in the wind. The sun flashed like a stroboscope between the trees as we got closer to his house.
I flung the cardoor open and raced around the house, hoping Damon would chase me to the back yard where I sat down on the edge of the patio. I giggled as Damon was coming around the corner of the house in a slow paste.
"You didn't even try to hide." He had a disappointed tone in his voice.
"You wanted to play hide and seek?" I laughed. "I wouldn't be in hiding for long, before you sniffed me out, right?"
He nodded with a smirk, sneaking up on me and sniffing my neck. I giggled, but was still a bit startled as I looked at his face and it had already changed; I touched it and studied him in awe. The skin was almost hard and a little colder than usual; my mind flickered to the stone-cold marble Twilight vampires and I almost snickered, completely ruining the moment.
He kissed me and everything else faded away. We rolled up on the patio with arms and legs wrapped around each other. The laughter was gone and the passion was overwhelming.
Suddenly it stung in my earlobe and Damon started to snicker. "Sorry!""Didn't I say I'm not a chew toy?" My voice lacked the intended stern tone that it should have had.
He looked at me with the eyebrows pressed apologetically together and a smile in his vamp-face. "It really was an honest mistake this time. Wait a minute." He licked my earlobe and met my sarcastically questioning look. He laughed. "I'm sorry, don't want to waste it, because I know you taste good." he kept laughing and it was so strange to see this fierce vampire-face laughing. The black veins and the red eyes subsided and he changed into his usual human gorgeous self, while snickering. I couldn't stop looking at him.
As soon as we resumed to the serious make-out, his vamp-face returned.
Suddenly he broke off and looked seriously around us. He was on his feet, staring out into the woods in a protective stance. I tried to look, but gave up, there was no way I would be able to see or hear anything anyway.
"Is it a deer, dear?" Well I thought it was a funny joke, but Damon was still focused on the thing in the woods, totally ignoring me.
He suddenly threw the keys at me. "Get inside, in the house now," he ordered in a serious clipped tone and I snapped out of the joking mode instantly, trying to hurry my trembling hands with the lock on the patio-door and get in.
When things were serious here, it was dead serious.
I stood by the window and saw Damon disappear. That was the single thing that got me absolutely terrified. What could I do without my defender?
