A/N: Ryan up top----
Chapter 18
Afia P.O.V
If hell was a place it would be where I am right now. When I agreed for Ryan to take me out on a date, I didn't expect for us to be together. In the early start of our relationship it was what I imagined that Benjamin and I relationship would've been, Ryan was a gentleman and treated me the way a boyfriend was supposed to treat a girl, he showered me in attention and love. But that all I changed after I met his family and he met mine, the façade that he was putting up came tumbling down, he didn't have to try and impress me anymore and he had gotten bored with playing the good boyfriend role.
"You don't need to be talking to Ashley anymore." Ryan said sitting at the end of my bed.
"Why is that?" I frowned.
"Because she is going to put thoughts in your head." He snapped.
Not feeling like getting into an argument I stared at the wall, when in the hell had my own room become a place that I had come to hate, oh that's right when I had agreed to become his girlfriend all those months ago,
"She is my friend, she is the only one-"
"SHE PROBABLY FUCKING WAS, BUT WHO WAS THERE TO PICK YOUR PATHETIC ASS UP AGAIN DAMN SURE WASN'T THAT BITCH." He screamed.
"Ryan I told you that I don't like you screaming at me." I said calmly.
"Well sometimes talking calm doesn't get it through your fucking head enough." He said coming a few inches away from my face.
"Ryan, she is-"
Before I could get the words out my face snapped to the left and a stinging pain was coming from my lip. I stared at him and he stared back not an inch of remorse crossed his face.
"Did that get it through your head bitch." He growled.
"Get the hell out of my room." I said spitting out blood on to my bed.
He didn't fight back he just walked out of my room. When I heard, him leave I walked out of my room and downstairs to see my parents in a heated discussion.
"Wo ara ma no yɛ dɛm kɔ me!" (You just let him do that to me) I yelled.
"Afia let-" My mother said walking towards me but my father tugged her back.
"Shut up Asha, and yes I did, I raised you to respect your man and treat him as one and you as two, So when he corrects you, you fix whatever the hell you did," My father growled pushing my mother out of the way and coming towards me, "Afia you are lucky enough to have Ryan even in your presence, we thought that you were never going to find anyone but now that you have, a successful white boy may I add, I expect you to do all to keep him happy, and I mean all." He hissed.
"This is why Akua left." I stammered out before receiving a punch to the left eye.
"YƐ DA SE DƐ DIN MU ME DAN!" (Do not say that name in my house) He yelled standing over me.
"Afia!" My mother sobbed.
Holding my eye I stood up and stared at him not dropping a tear, "She left because the voice that God had given us was snatched away when we became Adebowale's. She left because the person she loved was not good enough for Aba, so now look where she is papa, in California and she has no one there but the man you said did not deserve her because he was not black and he did not come from the rich."
My father raised his hand again and I said, "Go on ahead and hit me until you can't form a fist, you have done it before I can take it."
He stared at me eyes hard and said, "Go to your room."
