Felix was sitting, ankle deep in the pond water, his fur weighted with water. His hoofs slipped across the pebbly pond bed as the centaur doubled over laughing.

The siren was currently sitting on the rocks by his pond, desperately trying to climb them but for the eighth time that day, Jack's fruitless scrambling on the rocks only ended with him falling back down into the pond.

"Kinda hard to climb without legs isn't it buddy?" Felix laughed.

"I can do it trust me" jack said sarcastically, reaching to climb the rocks again.

"Your an idiot!" Felix laughed, "why are you like this!"

Jack jokingly hissed at him as he reached for a rock farther up the cliff.

And of course, only a few moments after climbing a couple rocks up, jack lost his hold and was sent back into the water below. The water splashing Felix

"Thanks man" Felix mumbled, wiping the water off his fur.

Jack was about to say something in his own defense when Felix held an arm out, motioning him to shut it.

"Smell that?" Felix asked, sniffing the air.

"Smell what?" Jack asked.

Felix sniffed the air again, what the hell was that?

Then it hit him, Felix whipped his head towards jack, the realization burning him.

"It smells like ash!"  Felix said quietly.

"What?" Jack asked.

"A fire" Felix said.

Felix's heart dropped, looking towards the sky he noticed the light blue was cut through by towers of grey smoke, billowing out of the forest into the air above him.

A forest fire.

His forest was on fire.

Fire.

A strong gust of wind tore through the trees, picking up hot embers and ash and throwing it at them.

How did the fire already find them?

Felix looked around him as if he was dreaming and all of this was a terrible night terror.

The forest was smoldering, hot ash coated everything around him and orange embers seemed to buz around him like wasp on attack.

The licks of fire threatened to reach closer to them. Felix looked down at jack, who was staring back up at him with fear sparkling in the depths of his  blue eyes.

"We gotta go jack." Felix mutters, eyes locking on the burning trees.

"You go, I'll... I'll just stay here, it's safe in the water anyway." Jack stuttered.

Felix's eyes followed a falling leaf, the smoldering leaf was burning even as it fell slowly towards the pond. It landed in the water and sat afloat for a moment before sinking to the pebbly bed of the pond. Bits of ash joined the leaf, clumps of dust collecting on the surface of the water.
