Awake

Chapter 5

Pain.

Felix's head felt like it was still on fire, maybe it was, could be.

His whole body hurt, everything was blanketed in a dull pain.

He couldn't see, his eyes were closed but he couldn't move, he couldn't open his eyes.

But he could hear, he heard voices around him.

"Is he still asleep?" Felix heard a new voice ask, I was gruff but soft and warm at the same time.

"no... he may wake up soon though.. he was burned pretty badly" the voice closest to him reported.

Felix was hit when the memories of what happened suddenly returned to him.

He was attacked by poachers... he saved jack?

Jack. Where was he?

Felix's memory was foggy, but he could remember fire and trying to save jack.

"Where's the mermaid?" A third voice piped up, he seemed younger than the others.

"He's a siren" Felix thought bitterly

"He's still in the ward with Tyler, his burns were worse than the centaur's.

"We have names." Felix thought, "wait did he just say jack was hurt?" Felix was getting scared

He could hear faint beeping that seemed to speed up the more worked up he got.

"What if I couldn't save him what if I wasn't good enough what if he doesn't make it" Felix's mind rattled off

He could hear faint yelling as the sounds of the room fell into obscurity and Felix passed out.

Felix woke with a start, the air felt... different , and the sun felt weird, it was... unusually bright and it hurt his eyes.

He realized he wasn't in the forest, the comfort of he grass gone, taken him.

Felix hesitantly opened his eyes, burning for a second before they adjusted to the light.

Where was he?

It all came back to him.

The poachers had them... they were gonna be killed for keepsakes and sold

Felix started hyperventilating when a mellow walked into the room.

The Mellow looked at him, smiling softly, or at least Felix thought it was a mellow, honestly he couldn't tell. The poacher had hair the color of fire.

"Why hasn't he killed me yet?" Felix mumbled quietly, knowing the mellow couldn't understand even if he had heard.

The mellow walked closer to Felix, causing him to whine uncomfortably.

The mellow looked at him questioningly before doing something Felix never expected it spoke.

"Oh! Your awake but are ok man?" The mellow asked worriedly.

"H-how" Felix gasped

"What?" The human looked at him, confused as to what he did wrong.

"You can speak" Felix huffed.

"Yah...?" The human asked, clearly confused.

"Why would a poacher be able to speak myth?" Felix huffed.

"Because I'm not a poacher?" The human laughed.
