Aerlinniel POV

They are having a funeral for the King's son. I could not handle any more sadness, so I stayed in the Golden Hall. I am sitting by myself for a while when Gandalf comes in with two children.

They have someone get them some food and, while they are eating, Éowyn speaks, "They had no warning. They were unarmed. Now the Wild Men are moving through the Westfold, burning as they go. Rick, cot and tree."

"Where is mama?" The young girl asks.

"Shh." Éowyn hushes her, unsure of what to say.

"This is but a taste of the terror that Saruman will unleash. All the more potent for he is driven now by fear of Saron. Ride out and meet him head on. Draw him away from your women and children. You must fight." Gandalf tells King Thèoden.

"You have 2,000 good men riding north as we speak. Éomer is loyal to you. His men will return and fight for their king." Aragorn adds. So, that must be the man from when we were searching for Merry and Pippin who was riding with a bunch of other men.

"They will be 300 leagues from here by now. Éomer cannot help us. I know what it is you want of me but I will not bring further death to my people. I will not risk open war." King Thèoden refuses.

"Open war is upon you, whether you would risk it or not." Aragorn states.

"When last I looked Thèoden, not Aragorn, was king of Rohan" King Thèoden mentions to him.

"Then what is the king's decision?" Gandalf questions.

Legolas POV

"By order of the king the city must empty. We make for the refuge of Helm's Deep. Do not burden yourself with treasures. Take only what provisions you need." A guard shouts.

I look over to see Aerlinniel standing, leaning against a stone wall. I still want to talk with her about a few things. I should ask her if she would go for a walk with me.

I walk up to her and ask, "Would you join me for a walk?"

"Sure," She replies, giving me a smile.

I link my arm with hers and we begin to walk, neither of us saying a word. I am trying to decide whether or not to ask her a few questions.

"Legolas?" I hear Aerlinniel say my name, pulling me out my thoughts.

"Yes, Aerlinniel."

"Why did you want me to come for a walk with you?" She questions.

"Well, I wanted to ask you how you were doing. A lot has happened and I will admit I am worried about you. Also, you had a bad dream that one night. Have you had any more?"

She gives a small sigh and looks at the ground before responding, "I am doing a bit better, I guess. Now that I know Gandalf is alive and so are Merry and Pippin. And, yes. I have had more bad dreams. But it is not anything to worry about. I've been having bad dreams for many years."

"Why is that?" I ask her, confused

"Ever since the Dragon attacked the Hidden Kingdom and I lost my family, I've had bad dreams." She admits to me.

I should have known, I feel terrible. It must have been so hard for her to lose her family that way.

"I am sorry." I apologise to her.

"No, it is alright." She assures, giving me a smile.

"How has your sister been doing?" I decide to change the subject.

"She's been great. We have been having such a wonderful time. I was finally happy, getting to spend time with her and with Mallory, going on adventures with Bilbo and my friends Caunedhiel and Eruedraith." She explains to me.

"You were happy?" I question.

"What?"

"You used past tense," I tell her.

"Oh. Well, I am not as happy now as I was. But I will eventually be happy again. Hopefully." She says, sadly.

Hopefully? What does she mean by that? I want to ask but I don't want to upset her anymore.

"Is there anything I can do?" I offer.

She opens her mouth to say something, closes it, then replies, "No, I do not think so."

"Let me know if you ever think of anything I can do."

"I will." She agrees.

I hate seeing her so sad, I will do what I can to help make her happy again.
