"Chirp, Chirp..... Skwark"I woke to a bird annoyingly singing in my ear as it was telling me to Hurry up, get out of bed. I jolted upright in the bed and the memories from the cruise flooded back into my head and that woman with the white eyes, I'm sure they were just contacts. I reassured myself. My eyes drifted back to that strange bird but there was no bird, instead standing before me, in it's place, was a woman, tall, pale skinned, with jest black hair in an updo that had curls surrounding her face. She wore a whimsical dark blue 1940s suit, with a fluted skirt and a jacket with a large feather embroidered on the shoulder of each sleeve. To me she looked like an actress from an old movie or a headmistress.
"Ah, good, you're awake. I've been waiting for at least 10 minutes." The woman said sharply,
Completely ignoring her I asked "Where am I, What happened."
It will all be explained once we get to the house," she replied now seeming very calm "but first we need to get you out of here with being seen, because with being seen means questions and questions means we will be late for supper."
But what if I don't want to go with you? What if you're some child kidnapper or murderer that wants to kill for fun?" I retorted, cautiously keeping my space from the woman and I.
"Oh darling, I'm the exact opposite of a child kidnapping murderer. I'm one whose life's purpose is to protect a special, peculiar bunch and you're one of these children I'm dedicating my life to so please come quickly, you need to follow me." The woman replied, walking towards the window sill.
"You know what, I will come because if I don't they will try to find my family or anyone I know, I'll be on the news and when I get home everyone will whisper, stare and point and I hate attention. Anyway that's only if my dad agrees to being related to me." I said, not making any sense but sounding disappointed.
"Well, let's not dwell on the past," She said, "Come, follow me out this window, meet me at the dark green car in 1 minute." She got out just as she slid off the window sill and off the dark brown roof, I watched her as she didn't make eye contact with anyone, speed walked to the car and got in and waited obviously for me.
I walked up to the window and muttered "Well here goes nothing!" I hopped out hanging on the edge of the window while I let my feet dangle for a few seconds. Noticing the woman turn around in the car and stared impatiently, I pushed off the edge and slid down the roof, not as elegantly as I'd hoped but at least I went. This had to be in the list of most exciting things I've done, ever. Except when I was pushed off the cruise ship. As I reached the gutter I jumped with the hopes of landing on the ground but, of course, instead my shoelace got caught on the edge of the metal and I fell, landing face first onto the cobblestone path. "Oww." I grumbled touching my face to check for blood. I was at least bleed in three spots, my nose, my forehead and my right eyebrow.
A few men walked past, staring but I could tell that they didn't even think about going to check if I was okay. As I got up there were slight pangs of pain all over my body but that didn't matter because I heard the strange woman's car starting up, so I speed walked to the car and hopped into the back seat. I groaned from the pain that was caused within the past few days, or however long ago my incident on the cruise was.
"Not long now dear." The woman said in a nurturing tone.
"Um excuse me, you never told me your name, what is it?" I asked politely
"How rude of me!" she exclaimed "Miss Alma Peregrine. What's your name darl', slipped my mind?"
"I'm Eliza Keen." I answered
"Well, Eliza Keen, pleasure to meet you properly!" Miss Peregrine said keeping her eyes on the road to make sure she doesn't hit anything.
A while passed before we got to anything interesting, just trees, paddock and houses, until we reached an opening where Miss Peregrine stopped the car and stared at an old home that looked like it was 80 years old. Nothing looked odd to me until I realised what made it look so old. It was basically falling apart, it looked like it belonged in a war movie. It looked like a war had taken place in that very house.
"Um Alma, what happened to this house?" I asked.
"It's Miss peregrine to you," She stated sharply "Germans bombed it in an air raid, 9:07 pm 3rd of September 1943 to be exact."
"How do yo-" I was cut off,
"Remember Eliza, all of your answers will be answered when we get back to the house. Now your looking very pale, please take a nap, I will patch you up and wake you when we arrive." She offered kindly
So I lied down and just like that I fell asleep in a strange woman's car named after bird, what will my life come to.
