Painful Capture

I felt a sharp blast of pain flash across my leg as a sharp branch sliced it open. I grit my teeth and pushed on, still running as fast as I could. The forest was deadly at night, and my monochrome vision didn't help much in the way of finding trip hazards and such. I felt a shot of static pierce through my ears again, and almost tripped, my hands automatically clapping over my hands.
Crap! That damn monster is catching up!
I leapt over a fallen tree, keeping a tight grip on the handle of my sledge hammer, making sure I didn't drop it as I stumbled. My breath was coming out in fast, short breaths, rapid after about an hour or more of running.
When will this thing give up?
Just as I thought that, the creature suddenly appeared in front of me. I had too much momentum to stop myself, and ended up trying to slid to the ground and try to grab hold of the roots and stones sticking out of the dirt to slow myself. I felt my palms, forearms, stomoch and thighs tear and rip as the rough surface abused my skin. My tights were in tatters, and my shirt was barley hanging on. Leaves, dirt and twigs were tangled in my hair. I looked up at the monsterous entity before me. It was huge! It towered up among the tallest treetops, but it's figure was that of a man. Elongated limbs were covered by a dark suit, and it had some sort of tie as well. I had developed a sense of guessing colours due to their tones, so it looked like the creatures tie was bright red. It's long fingers were pale and boney, and reached towards me. But the worst thing of all, the one thing that rung warning bells in my twisted mind, was that it had no face, only tight, white skin pulled taunt across its skull. The static in my ears escalated as the thing reached for me, and finally the sound was too much. I blacked out, still gripping my sledge hammer.

I woke up to the sound of low voices. I opened my eyes, vision blurry in the harsh light. I blinked a few times until the room came into focus. I was strapped down in some sort of metal chair. I had leather straps around my wrists and ankles, and heavy chains keeping my legs together and wrapping around my waist. I raised a white eyebrow as I took in the setting. Then I glanced around the room. It seemed to be a sort of cell, complete with chains and metal hoops drilled into the wall to secure people to. The room was bare apart from the chains, the chair I was sitting in, and a large metal door behind me, that I could just see out the corner of my eye if I turned my head as far as I could. I gave up trying to see the door, and relaxed into the chair, focusing on the straps tying me down. Just as I started to try wiggling my wrists out, I heard the cell door open, a loud creaking noise, and fell still. Footsteps came towards me, stopping right behind my back. I felt the presence of something, and it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Then the thing spoke.
"What is your name?"
The voice seemed like it went through my body, and made me want to crumble beneath the intensity. But I just raised my chin in the air and didn't reply. Then I felt a hand grip my chin, and force my head to the side. I came face to face with the owner of the booming voice. It was that thing! The thing from the forest! I narrowed my eyes and glare at it. I thought I heard an irritated huff. The thing spoke again.
"Little girl, you do not want to anger me. I suggest you tell me your name, and why you are killing so many of our locals immediately."
Aah, so that's why I am here. I'm killing that creatures' food. Well I don't care. I smirked at the thing before me.
"My name is Zero, and that's just what I do. I kill."
The creature stood up straight. His body filled the room, and I saw dark, swirling shadows behind him.
"My name is Slenderman," he scowled. "I both hunt and protect the people in this town. You are an intruder. However, I can see potential in you. In the house above our heads are others like you. Killers. Psychopaths. Call them what you wish.
You are going to stay here, both for me to watch you and prevent you from arousing suspicion, and for you to mingle with others like you. Civilised murderers. Perhaps you will become like them. For I am not letting you leave until you can prove to me that you can be trusted to kill with reason, not just for the sake of bloodshed. Do you understand, Zero?"
I tensed at the way the creature, Slenderman, spoke my name. However I couldn't do anything but grit my teeth and nod.
"Fine."
The word was sour in my mouth, and the creature could tell I was angered. I dipped my head, and white hair fell across my face.
"Can you let me out of this thing now?" I spat. The entity stood there for a moment more, allowing the point that I was a prisoner sink in. Then he gestured with his abnormally long hand and the chains and straps fell around my feet. I stood up quickly, fighting off the lightheadedness and nausea that threatened to make me fall, and crossed my arms.
"Do I get my sledge hammer back?" I asked, missing my baby. The creature ignored me and made his was to the cell door.
"Follow me," he said. "I will show you to your room, where you can sleep for the rest of the night. In the morning you can meet the other residents."
I tuned out what the thing was saying as I followed him up a long passageway, and up a flight of stairs. We finally reached a small wooden door. The creature turned the handle, and it slowly swung inwards. He swept a hand towards the entrance, motioning for me to go through. I took a hesitant step through the doorway and found myself in a small laundry style room. The creature closed the door as he came through, bending low to pass through the low doorway. As he stood, I realised how high the ceiling was. The thing continued walking into the house, speaking in a low tone as he pointed down hallways and through doorways.
"The kitchen and dining areas are through there, close to the front entrance. Hospital and training facilities are down that hallway, right near the end. There are two bathrooms down that way, another two upstairs. Game room and lounge room are opposite the kitchen. The library is just here, opposite the training room."
The thing droned on and on until we reached a big set of double doors. The exit! I thought the thing was going to go outside, but instead, he began walking up a wide set of stairs opposite the front doors. I could feel the thing watching me, so I didn't bother trying to escape. I knew it would catch me. So I followed.
We walked past a purple sparkly door, a pink door with childish drawing all over it, a white door with what looked like blood, a blue door with black paint dripping down it, a green door with technical markings, a shiny black door, a black and white striped door that smelled of sugar, and an enormous wooden door. We stopped at a plain black door. Slenderman gestured down the rest of the hallway, down which I could see a small plain wooden door, a black door with a red circle with a cross through it, an orangey brown door with a few axe marks, and a brown door with clock hands painted on. Slenderman quickly spoke again.
"Down there are a few more bedrooms, and the plain wooden door is a spare bedroom. This is your bedroom."
The creature opened the matte black door, to reveal a rather large bedroom. There was a double bed pushed up against the wall in the corner with a black doona and a small bedside table beside it, a large armchair in the corner next to it, a medium sized dresser, a small desk with a computer across the room, a large cupboard, and a black and white rug on the floor. Slenderman gestured to the cupboard.
"I had Jane put a few clothing items in the closet, so feel free to change into whatever you feel comfortable with. There are also some clothes in the dresser."
I nodded, and the entity began to walk towards the door. When he techies it, he paused, and turned back to me.
"Feel free to use the bathroom we passed. The female bathroom is the one on the right. You may then go to bed. I will wake you in the morning for breakfast. Goodnight."
With that, he left the room and closed the door. I rolled my eyes and walked over to the cupboard. There was a full length mirror on one of the doors. I stared at my reflection. My long white hair was filthy, and my clothes were in tatters. My boots and black shorts were the only things not completely ruined. I ran a dirty finger across the stitches that ran across my cheeks from each side of my mouth, making sure they weren't snapped. I traced the black around my eyes, clearing off smudges of dirt. Then I turned my attention to the contents of the cupboard. I sifted through the expensive looking clothes with my lip curled in disgust. Dresses, dresses and more dresses. There were a few shirts and hoodies towards the back. All black. At least that's something. I stalked to the dresser, and opened all the drawers, pulling out a pair of light grey tracksuit pants. I grabbed a plain black shirt from the cupboard and some black underwear from the bedside table. I tucked the clothes under my arm and peered out the door. Nobody was around. I quietly padded down the hallway to the bathroom. After a quick shower, washing my hair and drying it off with the towel, I threw on the discovered clothes and crept back to my room. The house, or should I say, mansion, was dead silent. I kept my head down and walked straight to my room and locked the door. I threw myself onto the bed and sighed.
I'm in for a hell of a stay, I thought bitterly to myself, thinking about how that creature had already treated me. As I closed my eyes, I heard a quiet, familiar voice reply.
It's less than what you deserve Zero...
As I drifted into sleep, I retorted back.
Well at least I am real, Alice Jackson...
