"Well, on the bright side, your eye isn't as swollen." Riley tells Maya who is stretching as they talk about school pictures.
"You're right, I just have a purple ball around my eye that causes everyone to stare as I walk passed them." Maya growls.
"I'm still very sorry I told you that you'd be fine without the spanks." Riley replies sympathetically.
"It's not your fault. It's stupid Jerry's fault for being pervy and looking." Maya says angrily.
"It's also Lucas' fault for throwing the first punch." Riley points out and Maya nods, "Yeah, but he was defending me."
"It's one thing to defend someone with words, and another to do it with actions." Riley tells her as she stands up.
Maya stands too, "I know, but I still blame Jerry."
Riley smiles at her, "Yeah, because you're starting like fuckboy Friar again."
Maya shakes her head, "No. He's a childhood friend, that's all I think of him as nowadays."
"You're in denial." Riley teases, "Anyways, you know he's coming back to school from his suspension tomorrow?"
Maya nods, "Yeah. Apparently he hasn't talked to anyone since last week though. I figured he'd be bragging or something."
Riley walks with Maya to grab their bags, "Brag about helping his true love? Doesn't sound like him."
Maya glares at Riley, "True love? I got punched in the face because of him."
"And that's why he's not bragging, it probably pains his small heart that he hurt the one girl that means so much to him." Riley tells her in an exaggerated tone.
"If he loves me so much, how come he hasn't tried to sleep with me yet?" Maya asks and by the twinkle in Riley's eyes, she can tell she's eager to respond.
"He loves you SOO much, that he could never sleep with you like he would with the other girls. He wants you so bad, he doesn't let himself completely have you. Because hurting you, would just," Riley lets out a sigh, "kill him."
Maya laughs at her explanation, "You have a beautiful mind Riles, save it for the books you'll write though, okay?"
Riley smirks, identifying what she says as the truth, regardless of what Maya believes.

Maya looks over at Riley, who is snoring loudly in her sleep. Giving up on her own slumber, she takes a piece of paper and folds it before making her way outside through the window quietly.
She climbs up a series of stairs and lifts a tiny flower pot that reveals a key. Maya smiles at the fact that it still has her name painted on it from when she was younger.
She unlocks the window and finds herself facing a jet black room. She can make out some furniture, and how a lot has changed.
She takes the paper she folded and makes it into an airplane. "Hey idiot!" She whisper-yells and she can make out the outline of a persons head. She tosses the airplane at the person and then goes back outside and waits.
After a long minute, Lucas crawls out from his window. "What are you doing here?" He asks and she shrugs. "I wanted to thank you for defending me." She tells him, "and wish you good luck at school tomorrow."
He laughs, "You came here, just to say that?"
"You one time came to my apartment across the street when we were younger to tell me that your rabbit was constipated." She argues.
His jaw drops, "I thought he was ill! That was good news!" Lucas tells her and she shakes her head, "I'm sure it was until you had to deal with the laxatives."
"Remember how I cried one time because I thought my rabbit was a boy but it was actually a girl and you yelled 'grow a pair, Huckleberry, you're embarrassing yourself'" Lucas brings up and she smiles.
"You were a big baby." She comments and he raises an eyebrow at her, "You weren't any better, if you didn't get your way, you'd scream and scare whoever mad you mad. And you were the main reason why I cried."
"True." She admits, realizing she wasn't afraid of anything when she was little until her step-dad became part of her everyday life.
The sun begins to peek up into the sky, creating a vast amount of colors.
Lucas notices the purple still present on Maya's face and lifts her chin to get a better look at it. "I'm soooo sorry." He tells her.
She nods, "I know." And he sighs as his eyes fall from her injury to her lips and then back up to her eyes.
She lets herself relax in the moment and leans in to kiss him until she hears "LUCCAASS!?"
Lucas curses under his breath, "it's my mom." He informs Maya and she takes that as a hint to skedaddle.
