"You're going where?" Erins voice over the phone asks me as I look at my outfit choices in the mirror of my bedroom. I've slowly gotten more and more used to it, it's bigger than my old one and I adore the mirror which wasn't even mine, I think it belonged to the couple that lived here before. I get a bit freaked out at night though, I'm afraid I'll see something in the reflection. It's silly.
"A party" I stare at my cream dress that ends just above my knee. Decisions, decisions. I've been deciding for about an hour now and this is what I like the best I guess, I'll throw on my leather jacket and that'll be fine. "with some people I met at work"
"No of course I know it's a party, you just said so. But like what kind?" Erin loves parties. She's always been the one to take me to them. Of course she had been to more than me but the few times she dragged me a long I had fun, I always think I'll hate it or be in an uncomfortable situation, but when I get there it's all cool. I'm not a pull an all nighter though.
"A house party" I rest the phone between my shoulder and jaw as I put on my dress and do a braid at the front of my hair.
"Who's house?"
"Christ Erin, I'm the one going, not you" I joke. I think I'll stick to a fresh face tonight.
"Well excuse mee. But really, who's house?"
"I honestly don't know" I shrug to myself
"Peachy, well anyway I have to do dishes so let me know how it went" I hang up after our goodbyes. I look at the clock in my room. 7:50. Chloe and I agreed that she'd pick me up at 8pm. I should brush my teeth. I walk to my bathroom and put the minty paste on my toothbrush, as I'm brushing I hear a beep and my mother calls that my ride is here. I hurrily spit the foam in the sink and rush out the door. Chloes red vauxhall is illuminated by the street lamps, I kiss my mom goodbye, grab my keys so another locked out scenario doesn't happen again. The street is wet, crap. Has it been raining? I hadn't even realised.
"Hi" I exhale as I hop in the passengers side.
"Hey you look nice" she smiles. She's wearing a black mini dress with killer heels, she's also wearing a lot of confidence. She points to the back and I turn. "That's Tyler and of course you know Harry"
"Hello" I shyly wave. Tyler looks younger than any of us. He looks maybe about my age, but I think he's younger. I'd say 16... He nods his head to greet me. Harry says hi but as he's staring at his little phone screen. That boy never puts the damn thing down. Chloe starts the car and we're off. I hum along to Ellie Goulding so quietly that even I can hardly hear myself. There's probably gonna be alcohol at this party, I'll pass, I never give into peer pressure anyway, I've never been that type of person. Small droplets skim acorss the car window, I always used to look at them as if they were racing and I used to pick one and chant it on so it would get to the other side first, I was about 10. It doesn't seem like that long ago, it feels like just yesterday I was a little girl playing with my dolls, it's almost scary. Maybe that's why I never give into drinking or smoking, I just feel too young even though I know I'm not.
"What's your name?" Tyler asks, snapping me back to reality. He's a dark skinned boy, I wouldn't say he's black but he isn't white either, but he has very curly hair under the snapback he's wearing.
"Delilah, Lilah whatever I don't mind" When I was younger it used to bother me when people called me Delilah at school or something but now I've gotten used to it.
"Oh my god!" Chloe interrupts, as if she has a brilliant idea and grabs her ipod and searches for a song, she plugs it in the car and the song 'Hey there Delilah' by the Plain White Tees starts playing. I cringe and palm my face. "What's wrong?" she laughs.
