Chapter Four

Secrets

Krishna woke early but rested as she learned long ago her body only required a few hours to reach maximum strength. The sun was just peeking in from behind the closed blue and green flannel curtains, sending light rays of light across the room and directly onto the sofa. She stretched and sighed in relief as her muscles extended and bones crackled. As yawn escaped and she couldn’t help but smile. Since leaving Detroit she hadn’t been able to sleep more than an hour and she now felt so much healthier.

“Good morning” Krishna nearly jumped at the sudden sound of his voice booming through the tiny space with cheerfulness and delight.

“Why are you up so early?” she asked without first thinking. Generally such a question wasn’t necessary as she would always wake before others and slip out unnoticed, leaving them to wake to an empty bed. Or in this case, apartment.

He smiled. “Never slept actually. But you sure did. You look rested.”

She smiled though inside she was confused as hell. “I feel rested. Thanks again for letting me crash here.” She added as she rose to her feet and began cleaning up the make shift bedding.

He reached out a hand to stop her and she complied. “You want coffee?” He hollered as he rounded into the kitchen and towards the brewing pot. With his words came the aroma and Krishna’s stomach grumbled.

“I think I will shower first if you don’t mind.” She was already heading into the bathroom. Even if he opposed, though she knew he wouldn’t, she would work her magic into him changing his mind. She was as desperate for a shower as she was for sleep hours earlier.

Closing the door behind her she heard his mumbles of agreement as clear as if he was standing beside her. She smiled at her abilities being back up to par and turned the water on. The hot steam quickly filled the room and sent her nerves into a delighted frenzy.

“Milk and two sugars just the way you like it” Lucas said cheerfully, handing her a full mug as she entered the kitchen. She smiled a thank you and took a seat at the small round table. She didn’t have the heart to tell him that she much preferred her coffee strong and black. He was so generous already, hurting his feelings was something she cringed at.

“So I was thinking, if you wouldn’t mind, that I could show you around a bit this morning. Maybe start with some breakfast at the diner.”

Krishna didn’t need to ask to know he was referring to that gawd awful place she visited the night before. By the looks of things around her as they drove to his apartment, the town was lucky to even have that one. She guessed two, maybe three thousand residents tops resided here. Cringing ever so slightly, she took a quick moment to think of the best response. Still not keen on hurting his feelings but needing to let him down either way.

“Actually” she started with a smile. He looked up from his newspaper to listen. “I don’t really eat breakfast” The words spilled out of her mouth and she mentally slapped herself for not saying what she was thinking.

His smile faded. “Seriously? Who doesn’t eat breakfast?” She shrugged. He chuckled and placed the paper on the table. “Come on, they have the best waffles outside of the city and you’ll love ‘em.” He insisted as he rose to his feet and stretched his hand out for hers.

She shook her head and took it, with hesitation of course.

“I’m really not hungry.” Se insisted as he turned to place his mug in the sink and paper in the trash.

“Nonsense. I wont take no for an answer.” He couldn’t understand why she was being so difficult. He was asking for breakfast and some light friendly conversation, not her hand in marriage. Though the thought had crossed his mind, among other things. He kept his smile in tact though inside his wolf was growing impatient and a bit annoyed. As his mate she should want to spend time with him.
