I gasped at what I saw before me. If possible, there were even more monsters than I could count in the short span of time we had. I noticed Christine hurry to catch up with us after she finished distracting Coach.

I followed Annabeth and Piper's lead to the back of one of their structures where we were hidden from sight.

"What do you think they're planning? Elise asked no one in particular.

"That's what were here to find out." Piper said.

We found a good spot next to some of the oblivious yet seemingly smarter monsters who were discussing that topic.

"What are we supposed to do next, anyway?" A gorgon asked her sister. "I'm so bored! And I haven't been this bored since the Titan age."

"Keep it down will you?" Her sister replied. She lowered her voice. "Ouranos wants BOTH worlds, the demigod one and this strange one. A few of the Titans are trying to get the Master a physical but temporary form. I think it may be one of his titan sons who give up their body, but they may just find a demigod as stupid as the one who was Kronos' host."

Annabeth sucked in a breath at this. I could tell she probably hadn't thought about Luke in a while.

"But then what next?" The first gorgon asked.

"How am I supposed to know? Why don't you go ask Ouranous?" She dared.

"Oh no, never... Wait a second, stay here I sense something." The gorgon left her sister standing alone. She started sharpening her weapons.

All of a sudden, I heard a blood curdling scream. I whipped around.

"ELISE!" Christine and Jason yelled out.

I choked on my gasp as I saw the small steel and celestial bronze infused sword sticking out of her gut. A gorgon was grinning behind her until Frank shot it and sent it back to Tartarus. Why were they making those weapons?

I shoved forward to kneel next to her body. Christine joined me and we both looked into Elise's face, shocked. Her eyes held much sadness at the knowledge that her story ended right now and would not go on. I couldn't bear that thought.

"Tell my family that I'm sorry and that I love them. I love you guys too, and you have to stop Ouranous okay? Keep on fighting," she choked out. Tears furiously welled up in my eyes.

"We will, Elise." Christine said as her voice cracked. We enveloped her in an awkward group hug but it didn't last long because almost immediately, her body turned to dust, like a Greek monster's dust. I was confused at this but I didn't have time to be.

Leo pulled me up. "I'm sorry but we have to go, we've been noticed." I suddenly saw that the rest of the seven were battling a group of gorgons that were trying to get to us. I grabbed Christine's hand and hauled her out of there as the seven shielded us.

We finally made it to the doors. Once Leo and Jason had locked and barricaded the doors with stacked chairs that were nearby.

We ran across the gym ignoring the peculiar stares of the students in the bleachers. Coach still hadn't been back. We burst out into the hallway and I saw that Nick had been walking and whistling with a hall pass in hand. He stopped abruptly after seeing the ten- no. nine of us barreling down the hallway.

"Guys? Christine? Sam? What happened?!" None of us answered so he followed us.

"Where's Elise?" He asked, again, no one answered so thankfully, he shut up. Christine stopped at random classrooms and pulled Percy out of one. She stopped by the computer room and got Hazel and Frank out.

She had memorized each of their schedules for references. Christine had always had a scarily good memory.

Then as if realizing at the same time, Frank and Percy asked: "Where's Elise?"

Hazel gasped when we didn't answer. She had imagined the worst case scenario and sadly, we were in that scenario.

There was a huge commotion behind us and I was stupid enough to stop and look. A huge horde of monsters was coming after us. They were fortunately at a slower pace but they were relentless.

"Crap," I said to myself after a moment. I turned around and caught up with the group.

"What do we do?!" I asked.

"I have a plan, but we have to go back to your house." Annabeth looked back at me. I nodded and led the group out of the school campus and not stopping to rest for once in my life. I had never been really athletic.

I slowed to a stop in front of the door. Annabeth was waiting impatiently next to the door.

"What do we need?" I asked her as I rattled my key in the lock.

"The book and the potion." I nodded and pushed the door open. I flew up the stairs and into my room where I bookmarked Annabeth II and the tiny Tupperware with the blue potion.

I hurried back in time to see the monsters that were less than a quarter mile away. I handed Annabeth the potion and I held the book open. She carefully placed a drop on the page. She gingerly took the book from my hands and charged the oncoming horde. She halted and held the book open out in front of her like a shield.

Like a vacuum, it started sucking the monsters in at a fast rate. This took a good five minutes and I wouldn't have been surprised if it turned out that every single monster was present. It seemed to attract the monsters, too.

Annabeth placed it on the floor, careful not to place her hands above it and sprinted back towards us.

A group of six cyclops flanked by Earthborn were carrying a throne on their shoulders. On that throne sat a transparent man. I could see through his to the back of his velvety seat.

They were alarmed by what was happening, but were also too stupid to take action. No matter how hard they tried to stand their ground, they started sliding in too and the transparent man was startled but looked too weak to move.

The throne became smaller to fit the book and they and the Earthborn were sucked in.

The book was still open and active so Christine went bravely to go close it. As she inched her hands toward the fluttering pages, a huge hairy hand pooped out and grabbed hold of Christine's small hand.

"GUYS!" We all lunged forward but Nick got to her first and grabbed on to her ankle. They both started sliding in and Nick let out a yelp. Frank grabbed Nick's free hand and Jason grabbed Frank's. Hazel leaped and reached Jason's hand just in time, but the human chain did not seem to be working.

It become obvious that we were not going to be able to pull them out.

"Maybe this is like shadow traveling! We have to hold hands to stay together!" Annabeth blurted out quickly as she grabbed Piper and Leo's hands. Piper reached for Hazel's ankle and Leo locked hands with Percy who took mine. (WOW that was unnecessarily descriptive)

Frank, Nick and Christine had already disappeared into the pages. Whoever was in closer proximity started shrinking and going into the book.

When Annabeth was halfway in, Percy turned to me and asked, "Are you ready?"

With my heart still aching for Elise, I shuddered and held a firm grip on his hand, "Ready as I'll ever be." He nodded and at the same time, we both jumped into the world of demigods and monsters.
