It was New Year's Eve, and Steven felt a bit unhappy. His mother had to go out of town again, for some kind of business thing starting on the 3rd of January- she left early "to avoid traffic" as she put it.
Steven wasn't dumb. He knew she just wanted to party, and he wasn't all that mad, actually. At least she tried to be nice about it, right?
Yeah... Steven wasn't all that sure. But right now it was 4 pm on the last day of the year, and Steven wanted to pop some fireworks. He decided to go over to Chilled's house, because he knew Chilled couldn't say no to him.
The look on his face when he saw Steven was hilarious.
"Z- Ze? Buddy, what- what are you doing here? Come in, come in! Hey, uh, do you want something to drink? Why be here when you can be with your family?" Anthony is speaking faster than Steven can process, not even waiting for an answer before bringing him a drink.
"Well... My mom had some stuff to go take care of. So I'm kinda on my own for now," Steven admits, taking a sip of the warm tea. He makes a face at the bitter taste, but continues drinking nonetheless.
"Aw, buddy," Anthony murmurs. He pulls Steven into a hug, patting his back. "You can hang here for the night- my parents won't mind, they probably love you already anyways."
Steven smiles a bit, and sets his tea down to hug Anthony back. "Thanks, buddy. I appreciate it."

It's two hours until midnight, and Anthony and Steven have been laughing like idiots for the past while. They had gotten their hands on a deck of Cards Against Humanity, and despite only having two people, they were having the time of their life.
"Okay, okay. So what's the card again?" Steven looks down at the cards in his hand.
"Women only get turned on by...." Anthony grins as he lays a card down on the table.
Steven giggles as he sets his down besides it.
"Women only get turned on by my humps, or by..." Anthony pauses a bit to laugh as he reads Steven's card. "Women only get turned on by old people smell. Nice to know what you're into, Ze."
"It's better than your humps, okay?" Steven pulls the black card out of Anthony's hand. "I think I've won this one."
"Are you sure? Like... Come on, Steven. Have you seen my humps before? They're pretty sexy." Anthony grins as he tries to take it back, making Steven back away giggling.
"No, no, I haven't seen them. Are they nice humps?" Steven grinned up at Anthony, hiding the card behind his back.
"Well, why don't we find out, huh? I'll show you yours if you show me mine," Anthony teases.
Steven shook his head, covering his mouth to stifle his laughter. "You'll show me mine? I think I've already seen my humps, sorry to break it to you."
"Wait, wait," Anthony laughs. "I fucked that up. Never mind, statement cancelled."
They both laughed, then sat down to play some more. It went on until Anthony's mother came into the room, smiling at the two.
"Everyone else is outside, don't you two wanna join? We've got food in the backyard, Steven, if you're hungry." The lady pulls a bottle of champagne out of a bag, then goes back out.
Anthony looks over at Steven, then stands up and grabs his hand. "Yeah! Come on, Ze! There's so much going on outside, let's go join the fun! I can introduce you to the family, too, if you want!"
Steven allowed himself to be led outside, looking around at Anthony's relatives who had gathered. They seemed to be having fun, talking and laughing together.
But to Steven's surprise, he's led aside, to a spot behind a tree. Anthony grins and shoves something into Steven's hand.
"What's.. What's this for?" Steven eyed the little object in his hand- some odd lump of wrapping paper and tape.
"It's a late present, okay? I kinda forgot to give it to you on Christmas, and I haven't seen you since, so... So now's the second best time, but that doesn't matter! Just open it!" Anthony looks so enthusiastic about the present that Steven finds himself getting excited too.
He opens the gift to reveal a little bracelet, a red woven bracelet with a little viking helmet charm hanging from it.
Something about the present made his heart flutter, made him feel warm and giddy inside. And it only got stronger as Anthony slips the bracelet onto Steven's wrist, taking his hand and holding it up to look at the bracelet a bit closer.
"You like it?" Anthony's voice is quiet and calm, Anthony giving Steven's hand a squeeze as he brushes something off of his nose.
"Yeah," Steven murmurs. "It's perfect."
"Well, you're my little viking, aren't you? Of course it is!"
-
There wasn't much time left now- only a few short, short minutes. Anthony had pulled Steven on top of a car, where the two were now sitting and waiting for midnight."You know, Steven, I'm glad you came," Anthony says out of nowhere. He looks over at Steven for a moment, before turning his gaze back to the sky. "You're fun to be around, you know?"
Steven smiles a bit, looking up at the sky as well. "I'm glad too. I love you, you and your weird habits."
Anthony chuckles and nods. "Love you too, buddy. Where would I be without you and your weird science kink?"
"Don't kinkshame me now," Steven retorts. "I've done nothing wrong."
"Hey, don't people kiss when the clock strikes midnight?" Anthony switches subjects without any warning, beginning to tap his finger against the hood of the car.
"Yeah, some do," Steven says thoughtfully. He then looks at Anthony, beginning to get what he was hinting at. "You wanna kiss, Chilly Willy?"
Anthony looks back at him, and shrugs, a sheepish grin on his face. "Only if you're up to it, I mean. It's for good luck."
Steven shrugs back. "I wouldn't mind-"
Before he can finish his sentence, Anthony yanks him in for a kiss, and Steven can only smile into the kiss and kiss him back. The sound of people cheering and fireworks is what makes them pull away, startling the both of them.
When they pull away, Steven snickers and smacks Anthony playfully. "You were a few seconds too early, Chilly. This means we have to try again, it wasn't the right time."
Anthony grins. "I think I can do that. I could kiss you all night, Ze. Happy new year to you, too."
