I awake from a deep sleep to my phone ringing beside my bed. I look at my alarm clock and notice it's only 3:17 am. Really? The one time I actually go to sleep at a normal time? I rub some of the sleep out of my eyes before groggily answering my phone, forgetting to look to see who it was. "Hello?" I then hear a sob coming through from the other side of the phone and quickly sit up, reaching over to turn on my bedside lamp. "S-Simon." I pull my phone away from my ear to check to see who it was, my eyes widening in alarm and concern when I realize it's Y/N.
"Y/N? What's wrong?" I ask. She continues to sob but manages to get out, "Can you come get me?" I immediately get up and grab my keys, walking out of my room and jogging down the stairs to the front door where I quickly tug on my shoes. "I'm on my way. Where are you?" I ask, walking out the door and to my car.
"I-I don't kn*hiccup*know," she answers. I start my car. "Do you see any street signs?" I inquire. "Um. I'm on the corner of Cherry Street and Ocean Avenue." She sniffs. (I don't know any streets in London so I'm using this from a song) I know where that is. That's not far from here. "I'll be there in 5 minutes, okay?" I say respond as I pull out of my drive way. "O-okay," she says quietly. I stay on the line with her and listen as she calms down.
Soon I am driving down Cherry Street and see a girl with H/C hair leaning against the pole of the street light with one of her arms wrapped securely around herself and the other holding her phone up to her ear. "I see you. I'm here," I say softly into the phone. I then pull up next to her and unlock the car, watching as she hangs up the phone and pulls open the passenger door, climbing inside. I reach over to grab her hand but she flinches away from me. I give her a confused and slightly hurt look and she just lets out a shaky breath and wipes a tear away from her face. I slowly pull away from the curb and begin the drive back to my house in silence.
"What happened?" I ask softly. She looks at me with a broken expression and it pains me to see her this way. "I ran away from home," she replies in a voice that is just above a whisper. I quickly glance at her, shocked. "Why?" She looks down and stares at her hands resting in her lap. "He t-touched me," she continues to talk quietly. My grip tightens on the steering wheel as I stare straight ahead at the road. "Who did?" I ask through clenched teeth, knowing she has had similar issues with men in the past.
"Mike," she whispers and I whip my head around to her. "Your stepdad?!" I ask in disbelief. She nods her head and begins to cry again. I quickly pull over to the side of the road and park the car, taking off my seatbelt and leaning across the council to take her face in my hands. "Hey hey hey. Look at me, right at me," I instruct. She lifts her head and looks me in the eyes, lifting her hands and resting them over my own, which are caressing her cheeks.
"He's not here right now. I am. And I will do everything in my power to make sure you never have to be near him again. Do you understand?" She looks into my eyes, searching. She must've found whatever she was looking for and hesitantly nods. I let a smile spread across my face and lean my forehead against hers, and she lets out a deep sigh. I pull away slightly and look at her, her E/C eyes shining back at me.
"I know you've been through a lot, and that you're hurting, and you're scared. But I'm here now, and I'm going to teach you," I tell her. She looks at me, looking like a confused puppy. "Teach me what?" she asks.
"How to be happy. How to laugh again. How to trust. And most importantly, I'm going to teach you How To Love."
