I was sitting in the back of a black Camaro, Steve was in the driver's seat and Danny was sitting in the passenger seat.

"This is a nice car you got here Steve," I said looking around.

"He wishes that this was his car," Danny said, "But he drives it so often, it might as well be his."

"It's been, what, 7 years," Steve said, "And you still haven't given that up."

"I see that I have struck a nerve with you guys," I said leaning back.

"It's not a nerve," Danny said, "I have just learned to accept that whenever I am with him, I will never drive."

"It took you 7 years to come to this conclusion," Steve said, "I'm proud of you, buddy."

Danny just rolled his eyes and then turned toward me, "Your partner this much work?"

"Nora has her moments," I laughed, "I guess all partners are like that."

"I'm not the one with the issue," Steve said, "It's you, Danny. You think that every time that we go out, I have this vendetta to get you killed."

"Because you do," Danny said looking toward me, "You know that the first day we met, he got me shot."

"Did you also know that he punched me in the face," Steve said right after that.

"Because you got me shot," Danny said.

My phone went off, I took it out of my pocket and saw that it was the Chief.

"Shit," I said under my breath.

Steve looked up at me in the rear view mirror and said, "What's up?"
"It's my boss," I said answering the phone, "Hello?"

"Hey-O," the chief said, "Sorry to call you. I was working late and  I wanted to see how you and Nora are getting along?"
"We are fine," I said, "Nora, is uh, having the time of her life. But I get the sense that something is up with her. She doesn't seem pleased when her old partner is brought up."

"Oh well, you already knew that. But, listen, I have another question for you."

"What is it?"

"Did your flight by any chance take a detour to Honolulu, Hawaii?"

My face turned stone cold and I struggled to answer the question.

"I don't want to hear it," the chief said before I could get a word in, "I thought we agreed that we would leave this up to Interpol. Carlos is a dangerous man for just you and Nora to handle."

"Chief," I said.

"I'm not finished," the chief interrupted, "Do you know how it looks to have my two best detectives go behind my back? And I cannot begin to imagine what Kessler is going to saw when he finds this out."

"Sir, please," I said, "Nora and I saw an opening and we took it. Unlike Interpol we knew that he was going to flee the country and go to a place that he could trust. By the time Kessler would have figured that Carlos even left the country he would have been gone in the wind."

"So you think that you and Nora can take down a world trained assassin?"

"We have assistance from a local task force group. They have the resources and are eager to help."

"I don't care if you got all of the HPD involved, I want you and Nora on the first flight out of Hawaii tomorrow."

"I am afraid we can't do that," I said, "Nora was shot this morning."

"WHAT," the Chief said, "What the hell happened?"

"It was Carlos sir," I said, "She is still in surgery and I can't sit on the side lines while Carlos walks to damn street."
