"We have a female victim, approximately 31 years. Gun shot wound to the chest," the EMT said to the doctor as they wheeled my partner into Hawaii Medical Center.

"We need to get her into surgery right away," the doctor said checking her pulse, "Prep OR 3."

"Is she going to be okay," I said running along with them.

"We let you know after the surgery," the doctor said.

I wanted to continue to follow my partner but a nurse stopped me and all I could do was watch them wheel my partner into the OR wing of the hospital. The nurse lead me into a waiting room and left me with a cup of water and some saltine crackers. I began to pace back and forth in the waiting room, thinking about everything that was happening. I knew that the shooter was Carlos. The question was how did he know that we were here and why shoot just Nora? Was it to send a message to me, or for me to watch my back? I looked down at my blood soaked t-shirt and hands. My phone buzzing in my pocket broke my concentration on what a mess I was, I grabbed my Samsung out of my pocket and saw that it was our coroner and friend, Kenny.

"Kenny," I said answering, "Now isn't a good time."

"I was just calling to ask how the holiday in Detroit was going," Kenny said with his Scottish accent.

I remained silent.

"Your in Hawaii aren't you," he said.

"Well.."

"Damnnit Bryce," Kenny said, "Do you have any idea what the Chief is going to think when he finds out that you went after Carlos?"

"Right now," I said, "The Chief being pissed at me is the last thing on my mind."

"Why," Kenny asked, "Did you find Carlos?"

"Not technically," I said, "But he made a hit on someone today."

"Holy shit," Kenny said, "This son of bitch has to be stopped. You and Nora have to go to the local authorities and tell them everything that you know."

"I feel like the Honolulu PD will be talking to me in a few seconds here," I said looking outside the waiting room window, "It was Nora."

"What was Nora," Kenny asked suddenly.

"Nora was the person that got shot."

"No," Kenny said breathlessly, "Is she okay? What happened?"

"It's all my fault," I said, "I wanted to stop and get food and when we were eating, she got hit square in the chest. She is going into surgery now. I don't know what will happen to her."

"First off, it's not your fault Bryce," Kenny said, "You didn't plan for Carlos to know that you guys were going to Hawaii. And as for Nora, she has been through worse. Remember the Brighton case? Took a bullet right to the left lung and was kicking in just a week later."

"She is a fighter," I laughed.

"Now the biggest thing, how are you going to explain this to the chief," Kenny said, "If Nora comes back with a fresh bullet wound, he is going to want to know what went down in Detoirt."

"I will deal with it when it happens," I said, "Right now, I have to deal with my partner and catching the SOB who shot her."

"Just be careful, Bryce," Kenny said, "Go to the local PD. Tell them what you know and let them help you. Because you can't go into this fight alone."

"I will Kenny," I said, "Thanks."

"Shit the chief is coming down," Kenny said, "Keep me posted on Nora and good luck."

I hung up the phone and sat down on a near by chair, putting my elbows on my knees and letting out a huge sigh. I then felt a burning sensation in my arm and then looked over to my right arm and saw that I had a graze wound.  I then saw the two police officers who I saw at the van walk into the hospital, walking up to the front desk and then seeing them both look at me. While they entered the lobby to where I was sitting, I quickly rolled down my sleeve and then looked off as if I didn't see them walk in.

"Excuse me," one of them said, "Were you the person that came in with the girl who got shot?"

"I am," I said looking back over, "Who's asking?"

"I'm Steve Mcgarrett and this Danny Williams. We are with Five-O task force," the one with brown short hair said.

"And," I said, "Am I suppose to know what the Five-O task force is?"

"We are the people that are going to catch the person who shot your girlfriend," the blond one said.

I let out a chuckle.

"Something funny about this situation," Danny said moving his hand around.

"Nora isn't my girlfriend," I said, "Nor is she my wife. She is my partner."

"Partner as in crime or..." Steve began.

"Partner as in police work," I said.

"So what brought you to Hawaii," Steve asked sitting down.

"We came here for a vacation," I said, "Needed sometime out of the office."

"So do you have any idea of who would want to do this to your partner," Danny asked.

"My partner and I have arrested many dangerous people in our 6 months working together," I said, "Almost all of them have said they want either I or Nora dead. Not to mention that Nora worked in Detorit for 5 years before going to London."

"Any of the threats made seem legit to you," Steve asked.

"Almost all the guys that made those threats are either dead or still in prison," I said, "And besides, I think I may know who did it."

"Well that's great," Danny said, "Give us the name. We will track him down and lock him up for good."

"I can't," I said looking down.

"I'm sorry," Danny said confused, "You can't or you won't."

"Both," I said confusingly.

"Your partner is right now fighting for her life in there," Steve said pointing toward where they had taken Nora, "And you are telling us that you can't tell us who did it."

"That is, of course, if you are involved in all this somehow," Danny said.

"I would not do anything to hurt Nora," I said, "She is the best partner I ever had. If anything, I feel like she would be the one to put hit out on me. That's a joke by the way."

"So then why can't you tell us who did it," Steve said crossing his arms.

I let out a sigh and then stood up.

"The last person who tried to help us catch this guy ended up dead," I said, "Not just him but his entire family. I am not willing to put you guys, your family or anyone you hold dear to your hearts at risk."

"We have dealt with some pretty dangerous people in the past," Steve said standing up, "We are willing to take the risk to catch this person, before he hurts anyone else."

I looked over at Danny and he gave me a slight nod.

"Okay," I said walking past them, "But before we do anything, I have to change out of these clothes."

"You can do that back at our HQ," Steve said walking toward us.

"Alright then," I said, "Let's catch this son of a bitch."
