We were all now traveling at a faster pace, trying to make it as far as we could before the weather got too bad for us...Klayton was definitely a changed man, know that he had Kc...even though I missed her constantly...Sandy was doing a very good job, of filling the emptiness I had for Kc...Johnny was always and forever staying right next to Kc, during the traveling...and I even found him sleeping next to her at night. Kiefer, however, got very attached to my new love interest, Sandy.
She and I were laying close to the wagon, with Hammie on my chest...and Kiefer laying in between Sandy and me sound asleep...I looked up to a noise I heard from the trees...but I eased when I saw Klayton up and checking it out...he looked over at me, and said it was just Huttser finally making it back to us. Huttser went up to Klayton and wanted a friendly pat...he stroked his neck, then he walked over to where Kiefer was and laid next to our heads.
Palla caught of whiff of her mate, and jumped out of the wagon and laid down next to him whining and nuzzling him. I told them to quiet down, and they began to play silently...it was still very early, and I for one didn't want to get up yet...Klayton was always the first one up...then Mickey usually followed him. Leland, JD, and the kids were usually the last ones to wake up...
My mom was awake earlier than usual, for she decided she would like to make breakfast this time...for all her kids and grandkids...Kc and Rachel were both up as well and offered to help...which she appreciated. Billy was out hunting when he came back empty handed he went to his wife to pout...but when he got there...he quickly noticed that something was wrong with Danielle...she was sick. Billy ran over to Klayton and told him something was very wrong with his Danielle!! Klayton told him to calm down...for yelling wouldn't help the situation any.
Klayton checked her out and said she had some sort of flu...that he's never seen before...then he added that everyone needed to stay away from her, and, from then on he wore a bandanna over his mouth and nose when he was giving her medicine. I got up and asked Klayton what we were going to do...after he left Danielle, he washed his hands and arms, then removed the bandanna and told me, that he thinks it would be a good idea for me to get everyone packed up and keep heading toward New York...but he was going to stay there with Danielle and Billy, to see if he can save her. Kc came up behind Klayton and said she would stay with him...but he turned to her, and said no...he wasn't going to let her be around the sickness...and that she needed to go with me and the others.
Dimitra, Costa, and Ronnie had all the kids in the wagon...and Mickey was hitching up the horse to it...while I was saddling up the other horses...leaving Cochise for Klayton. Rachel was talking to Kc, for she was very upset for leaving Klayton behind...Sully gave her a hug and told her that Klayton was usually always right, when it came to medical shit...and that they should listen to him...then added for her not to worry, for Klayton was a true survivor in this new fucked up world...and that he would cure Danielle, and he'd be back with her before she knew it.
We were just about ready to head out when Abby screamed as she pulled out her daughter from the wagon unconscious and burning up with fever...Klayton ran over and grabbed her and then told me to move out quickly...and keep moving until this evening. Siera and Leland were way in front of the group, for they were deathly afraid of getting the sickness, and wanted to get as far away from it as possible...my mom was worried about it, and by the way she was acting I think maybe she has seen this sickness before, maybe a long time ago...she went back to Klayton and told him about what she knew about the sickness, then she slowly came back to the wagon wanted to walk for a while.
I slowed down to wait for her to catch up with me, then I asked her if she knew what it was...she without looking at me, said yes...and back when she was a little girl, there was no cure or fixing it...everyone that contracted it, died with it...it wasn't any flu...it was a plague...and that it was caused by the destruction of the explosions...it contaminated the food supply and the water...and somewhere along the way...Danielle and Christine ingested it...and if anyone ate or drank out of the same containers, that they would catch it too.
I gave my mommy a hug and told her if anyone could save them it would be Klayton...he was very good with natural healing, and witch-doctoring using nature's medicine...and knowing it wasn't airborne...they didn't have anything to worry about...but then I asked why Billy didn't have it...for he shared everything with his wife...and so did their little girl Amber...and she didn't have it either...my mom looked at me, and said not everyone attracted the plague...but just carried it...for their immune system could be stronger than Danielle's and Christine's...then said she didn't know all the factors about the sickness...just that no one back then survived it when they caught it.
Kc was walking very slowly behind the rest of us. I helped my mother back into the wagon, then walked beside Kc, and put my arm around her, and told her that Klayton would be alright...she gave me an insecure smile, then hugged me back, and all she said was she should be there helping him, instead of leaving him. Then she stopped and said she had to go back and be with him...because it felt very wrong her leaving. I quickly grabbed her and told her if she really loved Klayton, to do as he asked her too and come with me. I held her hand and kept the group moving toward New York like Klayton asked me too. I didn't want to take any chances of my two boys getting the sickness, for they were my life.
