Oh God, I'm so going to win. I hold my hand out to him, offering to shake on it. If he is serious about this, us trying to make each other fall in love with the other person, then I'm in. I won't even need to prank him, I'll just win. I may not be pretty or super smart, but I can still charm Jake's ass off.

"Are you in?" He asks, seeming nervous for a moment. I nod and he grabs my hand, shaking it twice before letting it drop back to my side. "Great!"

And then he spun around and strode back towards the house, leaving me alone on the curb to wait for my lying, traitor friend. Wherever she is, it better be important.

Twenty minutes went by before Ana's navy blue car finally pulled up next to me. My bum went completely numb and my arm hair stood up on end. I was nervous Jake would come back out and force me to let him drive me home, but he never did.

I slide into the passenger's seat without a word. I refused to look at her, just wanting to go home and deal with the consequences. A sniffle to my right breaks my asshole attitude, though.

Ana's cheek is pressed against the steering wheel and tears are streaming down her reddened face. I immediately feel like I'm twelve again, helping her get over her first breakup.

We sat on her trampoline, talking about how stupid boys were and how we pledged to never date again. She was sprawled out on the black mat, snot-filled tissues littering the corners. How ironic it is that I am now trying to win the heart of the jerk by the name of Jake Cross.

"What happened?" I ask, forgetting my annoyance from earlier. "Ana, please tell me."

She wipes her face lazily and sat up straighter. She put the car in drive, not bothering to talk to me. She spends off down the road towards my house, obviously not okay.

I don't push anything on her, I just lean back in my seat and stare at her, waiting for her to cooperate. She parks in my driveway, instead of parking next to the curb like normally. I know for sure now that something is wrong.

She gets out and follows her lead, wondering what could possibly be wrong.

"Ana, tell me!" I argue, wanting an answer. she just grabs my wrist and pulls me into the house. My parents wait for me in the living room, my mom has dried up her tears and has somehow stayed calm throughout this. I open my mouth to apologize, but she just waves me off. Ana pulls me upstairs and into my room, where she plops herself down on my bed and starts crying even harder.

I slowly sit next to her shaking body, not knowing what to do. I want to hug her, to tell her that everything is okay. But I can't say that because I have no idea what is wrong.

"Ana-" I lay my hand on her shoulder, wanting to comfort her in any way. Not knowing what's wrong is so hard.

"I- I'm..." She stutters, her sobbing getting in the way of her speech. I grab a tissue from my desk and hand it to her. She blows her nose into it, shooting snot and salty tears into it. "It was an accident!"

If I already didn't want to know what's going on, I definitely don't now. I don't know whether she killed someone or maybe she's going to admit to me what she lied about.

"Shh..." I rub her back, trying not to force anything out of her. "Just tell me."

She stares at me, looking so sad. Her eyes are red and puffy and her cheeks are stained with tears. I want to wipe her face with another tissue, but I'm afraid I might get some snot on my hand.
