Eventually, I turn into a narrow and woody road. Trees rise above it and lean towards each other, acting as a sort of roof. I can barely make out the water on the other side of the trees. Small cottages and cabins line the side, most of them are deserted, while others have people sitting on porches and fishing down by the lake.

It's peaceful here compared to Hillford. There's nobody to bother you and no drama. Jake sits back in his seat, his fingers soothingly rub the cuts through the tee shirt that I have wrapped around his hand. He points to a small cabin with a wrap around porch and I pull into the gravel driveway.

Jake told me that his parents owned this lake house, but by the looks of it, nobody's been here for at least a few years. I park the car and shut it off, grabbing the key and hooking it to my belt loop. The chain jingles at my hip as I walk around to Jake's side.

He's already slipping out of his seat, but I decide to hold the door open anyways. I know that he's not badly hurt, but it's still nice to be able to finally nurse somebody else's wounds for once. Jake was there when Liam punched me, now I'm here for him when he punches Liam and cuts his knuckles open. My life is very strange.

"I like it," I tell him, looking up at the small building. And I mean it. It looks as if the house was made with huge Lincoln Logs and the roof is a faded red color. The lake is visible from the driveway and I can see a short dock that reaches out into the water. This is going to be a great weekend.

"Let's go unpack." Jake wraps his good arm around me and walks onto the porch with me. He sets his duffel bag down and pulls a small silver key out of the front pocket of his jeans. He unlocks the doors and opens it wide so that the entire kitchen can be seen.

It's large, with an island in the middle and a lot of counter space. There is a table off to the side with four chairs around it.

Jake leads me further into the cabin. I see a living room with a large TV hooked to the wall on one side of the room and a huge fireplace and stone chimney on another side. An L shaped couch is placed in the middle with a square shaped coffee table. There is a shelf full of books and board games.

Jake shuffles us into a hallway and I notice an ocean themed bathroom. I never got why people decorated their bathrooms with water themes. Some people put dried up starfishes and buoys in their bathrooms and I don't understand why. My bathroom's only decoration is a small sticker under the toilet seat that says 'Warning: Shallow water. No diving.'.

We continue into a large bedroom. There is a king-sized bed in the middle with a white canopy around it. I gawk at the beauty of it. There is an old-fashioned vanity on one side and a few dressers on the other. There is also a connected bathroom that is also ocean themed.

"This place is amazing." I finally say. Jake chuckles.

"Yeah, in the attic there's a few bunk beds for kids and a playroom." He explains. And in the basement, there is a game room and a smoking room."

"Wow." I place my suitcase next to one of the dressers and unzip it, pulling out an extra tee shirt I packed. I take my jacket off and slip into the tee shirt.

Jake turns away from me, pretending to look at a shelf lined with shells and books.

"It's almost dusk, why don't you put your things into the dresser drawers and then I have an idea." Jake quickly opens the top drawer to his dresser and dumps the contents of his duffel bag into it, not bothering to fold them. Then, he tosses the empty bag into the closet and leaves the room. He doesn't say a word, just disappears out the door.
