I woke up with Vic in my arms and his ticklish hair in my face.

I chuckled quietly and softly pulled him closer, accidentally waking him up.

"Mmm." He mumbled before rolling over and snuggling closer to my chest,

"Good morning." I whispered

He just nodded and mumbled "Mornin.."

"Want omelettes for breakfast?" I asked quietly pulling back a bit a brushing the air from his face so I could see his eyes.

He squinted at the light but smiled and nodded "But, can I stay in bed?" He hummed quietly.

I just laughed and got out of bed making sure to tuck the covers tight around him.

---

Huh, that's weird, my aunt is usually always up at eight, and it's eleven and she's not up...

I entered the kitchen, figuring my aunt was just in bed, and grabbed the eggs out of the fridge, placing them on the breakfast bar.

Bzzt Bzzt

Oh yeah, I must've left my phone down here last night.

When I got to the living room and scooped my phone off of the coffee table. I had noticed I had a missed call from an unknown number and a second missed call from another unknown number. Also there was a missed call from my aunt and two texts that I just skipped past and decided to check my voicemail.

The first unknown number didn't leave a voicemail but the second one did and it left me in disbelief but also shaking in fear.

"This is the Saint Marilynn Hospital it seems you are Margaret Petrusso's emergency contact and she was admitted here ten minutes ago at 8:43 PM."

The second one drew tears from my eyes as I sat back on the couch terrified

"K-ke-k-kellin, I've, I've just be-b-been j-jumped or s-something." She stopped to cough,"And I-I'm on the gr-ground and m-m-my h-head is bleeding real-re-real bad....no...K-Ke-Kell, he's here he's, he's, he's c-c-co-com-coming b-back....." Right before the line cut I heard a grunt, a gurgling sound and coughing.

"Kellin?" I heard Vic's scratchy voice come around the corner "Kellin, hey what's wrong?" He asked as he rushed to my side.

I was lost for words, so I just pressed the button for the first voicemail and held the phone to his ear. When the message ended his hand clasped his mouth and he said muffled "Kells, I'm so sorry." He grabbed me and hugged me "She's going to be fine okay? C'mon, I'll take you, let's go."

---

I loomed over my aunts seemingly lifeless body in the hospital. Hooked up to machines that pumped her lungs and kept her alive, she lay there, looking paler than ever before, with her head wrapped in bandages. My once energetic Aunty, who had taken care of me all of my life, was laying there, not talking, not laughing, or smiling, hell, she wasn't even breathing on her own. I looked down and her and got on my knees, I don't know if I really believe in God, I don't even know who I was talking to in this moment, but I took my aunts hand in mine and closed my eyes and spoke inside of my head.

Please, please wake her up...If this is my fault, somehow..I'm so sorry, but I hope no one ever has to go into a hospital, thinking it's going to be okay, you're going to see them and they're gonna say "Hey! I'm fine, it's going to be okay. How are you?" And you're going to laugh, maybe cry a little and reply with "How am I?! How are you?!". I can't imagine someone young, like 6 or something, walking into a room, not knowing what to expect, and finding someone they loved that had taken care of them, and just see them, looking awful and you get so scared because you see that their chest is barely rising, barely falling and you can just picture it stopping... But the doctors say everything will be fine, that she only has a few broken ribs so she just needs something to help her breath and she has a broken leg and will wake up soon but you're not going to believe it until she wakes up and tells you everything is going to be fine.
