when I saw you

To hear your voice was like being shot.
To feel your touch was
like being burned with acids
then set aflame.

To look at you,
was to relive those memories
to have them haunt me in my dreams.

To find you in my dreams
was a never-ending maze
where I was on the run
but could never find the exit
because you always found me first.

When I learned
that you were released
I had feared the worst.
I had to tell the story
of what you did
to people that I never
thought I'd share it with.
To be so vulnerable then
and to be so now.

It's been five years.
Why did you get released so early?

I was a child
who was already forced to grow
and become more of an adult
than most children that age
you stole the remaining
ounce of innocence I had left.

Because of you
I learned to smile through the pain
and say I'm fine.
