Prologue
It was one of those days that seemed to hold so much promise. The warm rays of the sun shone high in the bright morning sky, while the birdssang their melodic songs. The cool breeze danced with the trees on the compound, carrying the faint sound of children's laughter. Unfortunately, things aren't always what they seem and soon the tranquil scenery and the melodic songs of the birds were disturbed by the screams of a young girl.
"No I-don’t-want-to!” yelled the small brown haired girl as two nurses tried to escort her into the large glass building.
“Riley, honey please stop this and go with the nice nurses.” sighed an older replica of the screaming girl.
"No!” screamed the little girl, swinging her arms sending one of the nurses flying into the gold rimmed glass door of the institutes' entrance.
“Stop this right now Riley!” Her father reprimanded, with a fully flushed face. He didn't like the decision that he and his wife had made and the look of defeat and hurt on his daughter's face broke his heart. But he knew that it had to be done if his daughter wanted a chance at a normal life, and if she had to hate him in the process then so be it.After she relaxed the nurses managed to get the young girl inside the building without much trouble.
The Head doctor of the institute met them at the entrance after hearing all the yelling and screaming followed by a crash. With a frown she inspected the sad petite girl before her. The twelve years old wore a pink dress with black ribbons that matched the ones in her chocolate brown hair, which was styled in barrel curled pigtails. Her sad puffy hazel eyes flowing with tears mirror that of one far beyond her years. Doctor Evans walked over to the nurses and smiled at them, they looked relieved to see her while the parents looked at her with desperation and hope that she would be able to help their daughter.
“Doctor Evans.” the nurses both greeted with a sigh of relief.
“I've got it from here.” Doctor Evans stated calmly, and without any hesitation the nurses let go of the little girl. As soon as they let her go, Riley motioned to run for the door but Doctor Evans caught her by the collar of her dress.
“Let me go!” Riley yelled as she unsuccessfully tried to twist out of the Doctor's grip.
“Why?” Doctor Evans asked with a gentle smile that touched her soft gray eyes.
“Because…because I said so, now let go!” she yelled pushing the doctor in the abdomen with her tiny hands, but the Doctor stood unaffected which shocked both Riley and her parents.
Normally whomever was at the mercy of her tantrum would have gone flying, but the doctor didn't budge in the slightest. Once Riley got passed the shock she tried again but Doctor Evans caught her two tiny hands in hers, which caused Riley to started screaming, whipping her curls back and forth as she tried to get loose. Doctor Evans frowned at her which quickly silenced her cries, which once again put Riley's parents into a state of shock.
“Now, would you please follow me so we can discuss this further in my office.” Doctor Evans addressed Riley’s parents with a smile, snapping then from their state of shock. Letting go of Riley’s hands, Doctor Evans began walking down the white corridor, after a few steps she turned around to see both Riley and her parents following close behind. She turned back around and with a smile and continued to lead the way her office.

“So, can you help her?” Riley’s father asked getting straight to the point, after they left the cold blank hallway and settled into Doctor Evan's warm and colorful office.
“There is nothing wrong with her, she just needs to learn to control her ability.” Doctor Evans spoke calmly, seeming to take offence to his tone.
“Well can you help her or not!” he spat, then glared at his wife who was trying to calm him down.
With a glance at Riley, Doctor Evans replied “Yes I can but it will take some time, and your cooperation of course” Doctor Evan smiled, trying to lighten the mood as she took a seat behind her large oak desk.
Riley was shocked at what Doctor Evans had said. No one had ever said anything positive about her "condition" before, not even her own parents. Though they might have spoken to her about it with care and not hatred like others did, she knew deep down that they still felt that something was wrong with her, and that was what hurt the most.
“Are you willing to work with me, Riley” Doctor Evans asked with a warm smile. Riley nodded slowly and then looked away, not wanting the doctor to see just how happy she really was but she was unsuccessful. Doctor Evans had seen her eyes light up ever so slightly to finally look like the eyes of the happy twelve year old she knew was deep down wanting to come out.
I'm really interested in your thoughts so comment and let me know what you think :)
