"When your soul finds the soul it was waiting for
When someone walks into your heart through an open door
When your hand finds the hand it was meant to hold
Don't let go"
[Heart by Heart: Demi Lovato]
Tonight...I Promise You
As the months passed Riley spent more and more time with Blake, and wherever he went she was always close behind. Blake had actually gotten used to Riley following him, she still didn’t talk as much but she still annoyed him from time to time. Whenever the kids would try and talk to her she would run to him, and eventually they just left her alone.
Doctor Evans tried everything that she could think of to get Riley back to her previous self but had no success. She frequently had nightmares, but when Doctor Evans would ask her about them she wouldn’t tell her.
Blake was in his room reading when he heard a knock at his door; he ignored it at first but figured it must have been one of the nurses not wanting to come in without his permission. When the knocking persisted he got off his bed, knowing it was Riley, when he opened the door he saw her in her black and red Betty Boo pajamas with her blanket around her shoulders.
“Umm…can I come in…I had a bad dream?” she mumbled, staring up into his Dark eyes pleadingly. He held her gaze for just a moment, trying to decide if he should let her in, then stepped aside with a sigh.
“Thank you,” she whispered, before shuffling into his room.
“What was it this time?” he asked as he followed behind her to his bed.
“I was at the funeral," she explain wearily. "And they all look at me, like, like I was the one that killed them,” she confessed quietly as she sat on the edge of his bed.
“Hm,” he grunted
“I really hate when you do that,” she snapped as she crawled against the wall, making room for him.
“What?” he asked confused.
“Just forget it. What are you reading anyway?” she asked, taking the small worn black book that was face down on his pillow, and inspected it's tattered pages.
“I thought you had a nightmare. Shouldn’t you be a little bit more, I don't know, scared?” he teased, remembering the first time she came to his room; he opened his door to find her quivering in fear, on the verge of a panic attack.
“Oh, not really, I’m kind of used to them now,” she sighed heavily, slowly flipping through the unnamed book with curiosity.
“Then why are you here?” he asked, feeling a bit playful, he snatches the book from her hands tiny hands, causing her to scowl at him, which only prompted his shoulders to shake in a quiet laugh.
“I couldn’t go back to sleep, and I knew you weren’t sleeping, so I figured I'd come keep you company,” she explained, snatching the book back from him while he was distracted and smiled in triumph.
“I never told you I needed your company,” he protested, feeling the warmth of her gaze, he looks away from her twinkling hazel eyes.
"I know," she mumbled mostly to herself as she watched him tap his fingers on his knee rapidly. She realized that it was something he did whenever he was really nervous, but of course she would never point it out because he would see it as a sign of weakness and become more guarded around her. She continued to watch the boy whom she'd come to depend on for so much more than he knew, her feelings for him had grown far beyond the crush she had since the first day she saw him alone by the window.
