Sun through the windows shone in my eyes as I woke, squinting. I went to shield my eyes by hiding my face in Theo's chest, but when I turned all I found was a cold, empty bed. My eyes went wide in confusion, my hand reaching across the bed as though he would be there if I just reached far enough. But instead of being met with the sparks that I feel when I touch my mate or the silky sheets that lay beneath me, my fingers were met with paper. I grabbed it, bringing it closer so I could read it.
Morning, love. Sorry I'm not there, as much as I wanted to stay with you, it was urgent. I left some more clothes on the end of the bed for you, come to my office when you wake up.
TheoI smiled at his note and looked to the end of the bed, seeing the clothes. Slowly, I got out of the bed. I made my way to the bathroom, where I splashed my face with water and used a toothbrush that was sitting unopened on the counter along with a tube of toothpaste. I then pulled my hair into a slightly messy ponytail before walking back into his bedroom. I changed into the clothes he left, which consisted of another pair of his sweatpants, these ones black, and another shirt of his, this one gray with long sleeves. After putting the clothes on I left his room and made my way to his office. I knocked lightly on the door before entering, hoping I wasn't disturbing anything.
Theo looked up from his work, smiling when he saw me. He stood, wrapping his arms around me once I was close enough. He pulled me against him, kissing me softly.
"Good morning, love," he said, kissing me again.
"Morning," I responded quietly, wrapping my arms around his neck as I went to kiss him again.
"Sit with me?"
I nodded, about to go around to sit on the other side of his desk when he stopped me.
"No, just sit in my lap. I want you close," he said as he sat down in his chair and tugged me towards him.
I allowed him to pull me down onto his lap, turning to the side so I could face him.
"So, how'd you sleep love?"
"Great, until I woke up and realized you weren't there," I pouted.
"I'm sorry, I didn't have much choice. How about I make it up to you, tomorrow morning I'll stay with you no matter what. Whether it's here or at your apartment, I'll stay with you at least until you wake up."
"Fine," I sighed, acting as though it weren't enough even though he really didn't even have to make it up to me.
"Don't pout, love. I did my best. Stop it, you're making me feel bad. Alex, come on now," he said as I looked at him with as much sadness on my face as I could muster once he told me to stop pouting.
I didn't say anything, just continued to pout at him. I even managed to bring a few tears into my eyes.
"Alex, love, stop it. Please. I can't take this. What do you want? What can I do to make it better? Please tell me. I'll do anything."
I couldn't help but laugh now.
"I was just teasing you!" I laugh, grabbing his face between my hands.
"That wasn't very nice of you," he grumbles, removing my hands from his face and shooting me a glare.
"Aw, Theo. Look, if I were to name one more thing I want, it would just be this," I said, grabbing him again and kissing him.
He was quick to respond, not being able to resist even if he is mad. His hands fell with one on my hip and one on my thigh as he pulled me closer.
A knock at the door pulled us apart and someone was opening it before I had a chance to scramble off of Theo's lap. By the time I got to where I was standing next to Theo's chair Matt had already come in and sat down on the other side of the desk.
"Wow, only spent one night here and you two are already doing it in the office," Matt said, barely holding back a laugh.
I glared at him, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Shut up Matthew," Theo said, rolling his eyes.
"Not my fault you couldn't keep it in your pants, Theodore."
"Dude, it doesn't work if that's not even my name."
"Shut up."
I couldn't help but laugh, watching them bicker like children. I'm sure they've argued like this since they were children.
"What's funny?" They said in unison as they turned their heads towards me.
I lost it at that.
"You...guys...argue...like children...and then you talk...at the same time??" I managed while laughing.
I got no response so when I finally stopped laughing all I saw was Matt glaring at me and Theo looking at me with a smile on his face.
"Okay, one of you looks ready to kill me and the other looks like a kid who just got their favorite toy for Christmas and can't stop smiling. Why is that?"
They quickly looked at each other, each realizing which one they were.
"I was glaring because I didn't find it anywhere near as funny as you did, Luna," Matt said sarcastically.
"And I was smiling because you're cute and I couldn't help it," Theo remarked, grinning at me still.
"Stop it, I am not cute. It'd be nice if I was, but I'm not. So. Shut up," I mumbled back, turning away from them.
I was looking out the window with my arms crossed over my chest when I heard shuffling and suddenly there were arms being wrapped around my waist.
"You are too cute. In fact, you are very, extremely, insanely cute. Especially when you blush like you are right now," Theo said in my ear, and I knew my cheeks had to be bright red.
"Stop," I mumbled, reaching up and covering my cheeks with my hands.
"No," he paused picking me up and turning me towards the desk where Matt was still sitting, "isn't she cute Matt?"
"Oh yeah for sure. You really got lucky with that one Theo. It's a good thing she's cute enough to make up for your ugliness," he joked, laughing at the end.
I couldn't help but laugh too, turning my head to see Theo's reaction. He just rolled his eyes, smiling at me.
"Actually Matt, I think my mate here finds me very attractive. The only ugliness she's making up for is yours."
"Ouch. That hurt."
"Good. It was meant to."
They both laughed then. I smiled, watching them. Theo squeezed my hips as he pulled away from me, sitting back down. He waved me over, motioning for me to sit back down on his lap.
"Um..." I mumbled, feeling like it'd be awkward for me to sit in his lap with Matt here.
"Love, it's fine. He doesn't care. C'mon," Theo said, trying to get me to sit down.
"But..."
"Oh, yeah, I don't care. I've been with my mate for almost a year now, so I get it. Just sit with him, it's totally fine," Matt said.
I bit my lip, mumbling a quiet okay in response, walking to the chair and letting Theo pull me down onto his lap. I still felt awkward, and instead of settling comfortably in Theo's hold I was sitting stiffly on his lap.
"Alex, calm down. You're fine, love. Just relax," Theo whispered in my ear, rubbing my back in an attempt to help.
I nodded, breathing as I tried to calm my anxiety. I have no clue why it's so bad right now. I guess I'm gonna have to tell Theo about all that soon...
I spent the next minute or two trying to get comfortable, or at least make it seem like I was.
