Chapter 13- Goldspell: Stage 1 at Its Full
You are supposed to finish learning to control Goldspell to its full potential in a few days, right? Barbosa asked a few days after as he and Opren were taking a walk from a restaurant where they had eaten with Emerald. She was off to confirm her sisters were available to spar in a few hours in the case Selios needed they and Rufius to face Opren for practice again that day. Opren nodded.
"Selios said by the end of the week, I should be able to release the power at my choosing and switch from the single sword to the two katanas at will. If not, he said he may allow the others to nearly kill me as if the fight were real and had no limitations so I don't have much of a choice to succeed," Opren replied with a laugh. "So where have you been? You and Pole sure disappear and reappear often."
I have no idea about Pole's whereabouts, but I have been exploring, and occasionally I go tracking for amusement and a little preplanned help when hunting. I don't serve much of a purpose during your training so I only attend when I feel the need for my own entertainment.
"Well, at least you notify us on occasion when you disappear for a while. He hasn't mentioned anything and I assumed he would be in a pub looking at the women or in the library or palace maiden chambers. The girls who are there are learning medicinal topics and practicing massages, in addition to assisting the royalty. Supposedly, he helps them some so he is able to be around them for long lengths of time, but I haven't seen him anywhere for days... again. He is a difficult companion sometimes, but I suppose we need his help when traveling because he is an extra person and that is always good," Opren said. "Well, I should go to the sparring grounds for practice if you wanna come."
Might as well for the next few sessions since I know almost the entire area now. Nothing to explore and no main hunting areas left to find. I do want to see you master the Goldspell so I don't have to protect you anymore, Barbosa replied with a laugh.
Opren and Barbosa continued to chat about his explorations as they walked the opposite way from their previous direction to head to the sparring grounds. Opren was to begin his last week's lessons with Selios and was meant to have everything learned thus far under complete control by the end. As they arrived, the elven warrior was waiting in a meditative state. This was the first time Opren had seen him as peaceful and he wondered how often Selios actually did this, if routinely. Selios opened his eyes as they walked closer and stood upon seeing the two friends.
"Ah, you're even early today. Good job. I didn't know you were so ready to fight for your life," Selios said. "Good to see your mascot is here to support you." Selios turned to Barbosa and smiled. "I am not serious of course, Barbosa. How have you been, fellow warrior?"
Well enough and fed plenty, Barbosa replied. And whatever helps Opren learn faster so I don't have to worry if he comes close to being killed is a reasonable joke to me. Child watching isn't my specialty, even if I did decide to help him for awhile. I know you realize my strength so it will be difficult to offend me now. I enjoy humor.
"Glad to hear you agree with my mindset," Selios said with another smile. He turned to Opren again. " I was serious about you coming close to dying if you don't do well during practice henceforth, though. While dangerous before, the training was always sparring and, as you recently discovered, the real fighting against multiple strong opponents is a bit tougher."
"Especially when you don't want to hurt one of the opponents too badly," Emerald said as she and her sisters joined the others. "Are you ready to fight, Laleiy?" Opren smiled and nodded as she hugged him. "Good because that's the only nice way I'm going to touch you until practice ends today."
