Chapter 15 -Dragons... and More Lessons
"You see, this is where the oracle most likely instructed you to go," Zacharia said the next evening, as they reached an area of the forest that had large stones around- seemingly randomly. "This is correct, but not detailed enough. The city is beyond the trees here, but you wouldn't likely be allowed to enter and would likely be killed without question."
"Is there a password or something?" Opren asked with a laugh.
"No. Not exactly, but in a few moments we may all be dead if you aren't found worthy to enter by the watching dragon. I have been there on my own accord, but I am not officially allowed to enter alone since I am half demon," Zacharia replied.
"It would have likely been nice for Oracle Kimmie to have mentioned that part," Rufius said with a bit of sarcasm.
"Don't worry. I have been to Delionyta several times and I am honored there for rescuing a dragon's child once," Polaris said.
"I'm still curious why you acted as you did, and likewise fought so badly against those wolves and other things we encountered being who you actually are, Polaris," Emerald said with arms folded. "You would have been a lot more help not acting like a perverted old sage who knew nearly no useable magic or combat skills."
"I have my reasons, including allowing you all to progress as you have before I showed myself. And, I do have a thing for the ladies, but I am not a useless perverted old man," Polaris replied, grinning a bit bashfully at the last part. Emerald and Sapphire rolled their eyes. "I will explain more about myself when I feel the time is right."
"At least he isn't bad looking for his age," Ruubi said with a shrug.
"You would say that, wouldn't you?" Rufius said with a sigh. As he finished his breath, a low rumbling could be heard and then a loud growl.
A figure suddenly cast an immense shadow over the area and a burst of air could be felt as a large creature landed directly in front of the group, taking up the amount of space all of them together occupied. It was a large blue and white dragon.
"What brings you to this place?" the dragon bellowed. He looked the group over from Opren's right to the left.
"We seek answers about something we were told could be found in Delionyta," Opren replied. The dragon snapped its large head back to Opren and glared at him intensely.
"Many seek answers about many things, but that doesn't mean we allow them to enter our sacred cities as easily as we are speaking, young human," the dragon replied harshly. "What makes you think I will allow you to pass, let alone your foul smelling vampiric companions?"
"I thought we smelled nice," Vanessa said with a shrug. She placed a hand to her heart and gave a look as if she were hurt. The dragon gained an expression of anger.
"Do NOT dare mock me, vampire! You know as well as I creatures can have a separate smell about them from their initial outer scent. You smell human blood and I smell your spirit. I smell the half-demon's odor and your own, beneath the earthly or magical perfume you wear. The elves are permitted here because I know their scent matches that of the king and queen of Avarrinnia and we are close allies. I was questioning this human who smells pure enough. Do not interrupt with foolish comments as if you have a place to do so," the dragon said roughly. He turned back to Opren, who gave his reply in a somewhat cautious, yet sturdy, tone..
"I am seeking answers, and instruction if possible, about the Goldspell. It is an orb passed down to me by my grandfather. It must be important since so many beings seem to want to steal it or kill me or both since I have acquired it."
