Paige woke up. It was Saturday so she didn't have school. She heard her parents still arguing. She groaned.
"They've been like that all night. Must've been tired, you slept through it all," Aunt May startled Paige.
She jumped. She let out a sigh of relief when she realized it was Aunt May.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you," Aunt May apologized. "Surprised Peter actually is still asleep."
"Well I'm going to go get dressed," Paige sighed.
She knew if she wanted to stay another night she would have to go and get more clothes. Which would mean she'd have to try to make it through her parents fighting.
She took a shower and quickly got changed. She walked into the kitchen where Aunt May was fixing pancakes. Aunt May set a plate down in front of her.
"If you want to stay another night you can, but I assume you'd want to stay in the guest room," Aunt May stated.
"Yeah, that'd probably be better than the couch," Paige sighed.
Paige quickly ate them and then walked out. She stood in front of her apartment's door, then walked in. Big mistake. Jeff and Stephanie were having a fight right at the door.
"Where have you been? You never came home last night!" Jeff yelled.
"Leave her out of this, Jeff!" Stephanie snarled.
"Don't tell me what to do!" Jeff screamed.
Paige snuck by and ran to her room. She grabbed several outfits and walked back out to find that Jeff had left and Stephanie was sitting on the couch.
"You and me are leaving for Seattle two weeks from now," Stephanie sighed.
"What about Jeff?" Paige asked.
"We're filing for a divorce," Stephanie groaned.
"I'm not leaving when I just got settled in," Paige argued.
"Yes you are," Stephanie ordered.
"No I'm not. When you said that I could learn about my past I thought that'd mean I could hopefully find some relatives to stay with," Paige sighed. "I need to know.
"No. You're my girl! I raised you, I took care of you! You are my kid!" Stephanie yelled.
Paige walked over and sat down.
"Look, I need to know. I know that they're gone, that I'm your girl, and that they're not coming back, but I need to know," Paige tried to convince.
Stephanie sighed.
"Your father worked at Oscorp. He was a scientist while your mom was too. I don't have your birth certificate, just your adoption certificate. You might be able to find something out at Oscorp," Stephanie started to tear up.
"Why can't you just tell me?" Paige asked.
"I don't wanna talk about it. I want you to find out for yourself," Stephanie said as tears threatened to fall.
Stephanie walked over and handed her a sticky note with the list of projects her dad worked on at Oscorp. Paige sighed as she turned back to walk out of the door. She went over to Aunt May and Peter's apartment. She opened the door and grabbed her bag as she ran to the guest bedroom. She sat down on the bed and closed the door. She pulled out her laptop and headphones. She opened her laptop and started typing. She was hacking into Oscorp's files. She saw a bunch of files open up and she looked around and saw several classified and secret files pop up. Paige knew she wasn't supposed to see seventy five percent of this, but....oh well. She saw a cross species genetics file and clicked on it. A video popped up. She plugged her headphones in and started listening.
"We have been working on cross species genetics for quite some time. The closest thing we have been to a success is with our spiders crossed with human DNA. It's hoped that the venom once extracted can act as a healing agent," one man said.
"It is possible it could cure Alzheimers, even cancer," the other said.
"Human trials will start soon, but we will have to find a test subject first," the first man sighed.
Paige stared at the screen as the video cut off. Another video came up.
"We are testing the cross species genetics with the spiders venom today, but I have to make a possible sacrifice," he stepped to the side and revealed a small baby. "This is my daughter, Paige. I know it might seem cruel right now, but she has been diagnosed with children's cancer and it's getting considerably worse. It's getting to the point where we have to keep her under quarantine all the time. If this test works then Paige's life could be saved, but if it doesn't........ I'll lose her soon. It's already getting to the point were we are having to take her to the hospital every other day, and I just want her to live. We also have to separate her from my son Peter."
He went over to the baby and injected her with a small shot.
"Now we'll have to wait and see," he sighed.
The screen cut to the next video.
"The test was a success and Paige's cancer has disappeared completely, and she is now living a normal life with me, my wife, and Peter, but with her being a success I don't know if she can stay in the city too much longer, since several companies are trying to get their hands on her and her alone, so I have to make it look like she disappeared, and the experiment wasn't a success," he frowned. "My only regret is... she'll never be able to grow up with me and her mother."
The video turned black and she closed her computer. She didn't know she used to have cancer, and that spider must've been how she got her powers, and Peter was her brother......Peter opened her door and walked in.
"Hey, just wanted to see what you were up to," he greeted.
"Hey, I was just playing games on my laptop," she lied.
"Okay, do you want to go get some ice cream?" Peter asked.
"Sure," Paige smiled.
She didn't want to tell him yet.
