Never Thought I'd End Up In Prison

"That explosion is bringing walkers from miles!" Liam exclaims.

"Exactly why we have to keep moving!" Zayn responds.

"I'm really tired though." I complain.

"I- okay let's take a quick break. But we have to get moving as soon as possible, alright?" Zayn says.

"Finally!" Louis says, exasperated.

We had been running for two hours with barely any breaks. It was nearing three pm, judging by the sun.

I sat beside Harry, making small talk as Zayn stayed standing. Zayn looked left and right, his ears keen on every sound.

"How are you, Ray?" Harry asks.

"I'm fine, I guess. It hasn't really hit me that our only plan failed. Where are we going to go now?" I ask desperately.

"I don't know, but i'm sure we'll find something! There's always something."

"Yeah. There's always something." I say with a bitter tone.

Within an hour or two, we find ourselves wandering the woods. Liam thought that we could follow some old animal traps to shelter. The plan seems hopeless until we exit the woods.

"What is that?" Liam asks as we emerge from the woods. A large, grey, cement jail stands prevailing in the distance. The prison shows off its huge, double-fences and guard posts.

"A prison? How'd we end up here?" Harry asks.

"Maybe there's someone inside. Look, there are no walkers inside the prison yard." I point.

"Do we want to find out? Is it worth the risk?" Harry considers the danger.

"I think so. We need to stop being afraid of taking risks. It's risk and reward. If someone is in there, they might be friendly. They could even have supplies!" I say.

"Friendly people in a jail?" Zayn laughs. "That doesn't sound right to me."

"Well I say we go for it!" Louis agrees with me, "But two or three of us should watch from the treeline in case it goes bad."

"Only two people should go. We can't risk too many of us getting hurt, especially when there's only five of us." Harry suggests. "I'll go."

"I'll go too." I quickly announce.

"Then i'm going too." Zayn steps up.

"But we agreed on two people." Harry argues.

"If Ray's going--"

"I'll be fine," I interject. "plus Harry is perfectly capable of keeping me and himself safe. Not to mention that you guys will be in the treeline." I reach out to touch Zayn's arm.

"I- alright." He agrees. Zayn always seems to overrun his own opinion with mine. "But if anything happens, just holler and we'll be out there as fast as possible." Harry and I both nod to Zayn.

"So what's the game plan?" Louis asks.

"We knock on their front door." I suggest.

"What? They don't even have a front door." Liam notices.

"Figurative language, Liam." I roll my eyes. "Let's go, Harry." I slap his back, ready to go.

Harry and I trudge through the tall grass and muddy banks of the small creek below. It is about three feet wide and one foot deep, but separates us from the jail. I spot a small wooden platform that serves as a bridge near the front gates.
