“You may rise.” He whispered.
He looked tired as if he had stayed up the night before and several days before coming here. His friends didn’t look any better I guess traveling across the country did that to you.
“Your highness…..” began Monica my stepmother before I cut an angry look in her direction.
Highness no one said anything about royalty coming to visit this morning at breakfast or when I was dressing or when I went into the market place this afternoon, why was I not informed of this.
“You didn’t tell your daughter I was coming.” Said the king, wearing a similar look as my own as he looked at Monica
“Excusing my choice of words your highness but Brigham would have disappeared faster than the cake at a child’s birthday party.” She replied
For just a moment his eyes seemed to fill with laughter and then just as quickly it was there, was gone replaced with a darker emotion.
“Never the less we will make do with the time we have.” He sighed then turned to look at me for the first time since I had entered the room. “Lady Hawk…. Well I would ask you for your help with a matter that has come to our attention recently.”
“And what matter is that your majesty?”
“A large number of young people have gone missing after entering the Danomin wood.”
“I thought people were forbidden by the Council of TuClau to enter the wood unless they were of the line of Bane the first werewolf.”
“They are but…… they are still gong missing.”
“So you think the wolves did it.” I guessed
A horrible sound like boulders crashing down a hill begins to emit from several of the courtiers standing behind the king. One in particular seemed the most angered by my words; he was of medium height and build with strawberry blonde hair, over all he wasn’t much to look at until you looked into his eyes. They were the color of fresh blood and even that wasn’t what made them odd, it looked as if someone had splashed a single little teardrop of ink outside of his pupils.
“Are you accusing the council of openly kidnapping people Miss?” He growled
“Um……I wouldn’t say I am accusing them really if I know for a fact that they have done so in the past. Take the Night of Blood; it was not even 35yrs ago that several members were found to have large stores of live humans in their homes to feed on.” I countered
He began to open his mouth as if to reply but before he could get more than a few words out the king silenced him.
“What you say is true Lady Brigham, but is it not also true that humans have also eaten werewolves. And nothing happens to those humans now did it, those werewolves were killed.”
“This is true but I never gave an opinion on what I think should happen to those who eat the flesh of were’s of any kind.” I paused for a moment to let my words sink in before continuing. “I will help though I’m sure there are other more qualified Elementals who could do the job you pose to me.”
“There most likely are but most Elementals hate the ideas of helping werewolves.”
I hadn’t thought about it but he was right ever since the last Magic Wars the wolves and the Elementals walked a fine line.
“Now that everything is settled won’t you go and refresh yourself your majesty.” Murmured Monica who hadn’t spoken a word while we talked
Yes I think I will Mistress Hawk….I am much obliged to your hospitality.” Replied the king as he swept out of his room with his courtiers in hot pursue.
“Ahhh” She sighed to herself looking after him with an appreciative look on her face. “I wonder why he’s not married.”
“I wonder too?”
