I swallowed my tongue. All eyes were on me. Whether it was panic or fear of Lucy or whatever, something possessed me to lie, and I stupidly went along.
"No," I said lowering my head. "I slipped and fell in, she must have thought I fainted." Stupid stupid stupid! What the hell are you doing? This is your chance! My eyes watered as I dug myself in a deep hole of lies and it hadn't even been a month. "She didn't push me."
Everyone widened their eyes. Lucy had been telling the truth. At least, according to me. Bon sighed. "I need some air," he said at last. He went outside and Mark went to his room. Phil and Malcolm stayed but they didn't say anything. All of the sudden a few noises emitted from 'that' bedroom and I got scared. If the actions won't kill me the sounds will.
I pulled my knees to my chest and covered my head. "Hey you okay?" Malcolm asked. I shook my head. I wasn't gonna lie this time. "You're actin' like you were a week ago."
"How so?" Phil asked.
"She started, I don't know, havin' some panic attack or somethin'."
"Oh geez. You okay kid?" Phil asked. I got up from the couch and ran to the bathroom. I was not going to humiliate myself in front of them. The world started spinning again and I dropped to the floor hyperventilating. My skin was crawling and my heart racing. Someone knocked on the door before I passed out.
Malcolm ran after Hannah with Phil following. She slammed the door on them so they listened through the wood. Phil motioned his head to the door and Malcolm knocked. A small thud was heard inside as Hannah passed out.
"Hannah? Hannah open the door!" No one answered.
"Get her out of there!" Phil yelled. Malcolm kicked the door until it swung open and hit Hannah. "Nice."
"Just help me get her to the couch," Malcolm sighed. They picked the limp girl up and carried her to the couch. Bon came back inside with a cigarette.
"What's going on?" he asked hurrying over.
"This time she really did pass out," Phil explained.
"But she said she wasn't sick."
"She had a panic attack," Malcolm said putting a glass of water on the coffee table.
"She never mentioned no panic attacks," Bon said kneeling next to her.
"No, but I have a feeling she has some underlying- issues she hasn't told us." Bon inspected her head for any damage.
"She doesn't have a concussion," he said.
"What are you, a doctor?" Phil asked.
"I know what I'm doing Rudd," Bon said. "She does have a small bruise on her arm though."
"Mal hit her with the door," Phil said.
"Good job Mal."
"I was getting the door open!"
"It's called a doorknob."
"It was locked, dammit!" Malcolm yelled at Bon. Angus came out of his room, his hair even messier than normal. The three young men stared at him as he went to the fridge for tea.
"You guys get a good look?" Angus asked them with a smile. He turned to the couch and it disappeared. "What happened?" he asked rushing over.
"Well while you were off havin' fun with Lucy, Hannah had a panic attack over here," said Malcolm.
"Oh fuck," Angus said kneeling down next to Bon and Hannah. He moved some hair out of her face and studied her.
"Finally caring about her, are we?" asked Bon.
"I've always cared about her."
"That's not what you said on the plane," Phil told him.
"I was just upset with you guys, of course I care."
"Upset about what? We didn't do anything," Malcolm said.
"For asking all these damn questions and getting in my business," Angus said standing up.
"We were worried about you Angus! Bloody hell mate, forgive us for having hearts," Malcolm said.
"There's nothing wrong! I'm fine!"
"Ang, if you like her just tell us," Phil said.
"I told you I like Lucy." Bon stepped up to him.
"No you fucking don't Ang." Angus glared at him. Lucy came out of the bedroom, her hair also a wild mess.
"What's going on?" she asked in a daze.
"Not now Lucy," Bon said. Lucy glanced at Hannah.
"Oh my God, what happened?"
"Nothing that concerns you, just go off to some street corner," Bon continued. Lucy turned back to the bedroom flipping him off. Angus knelt down by Hannah again and felt her forehead.
"What's this bruise on her arm?"
"Mal kicked the door on her."
"Shut up Phil."
"Where the hell did Mark go?" asked Bon putting out his cigarette.
"I'm not his mother," Phil said.
"Well we're supposed to leave for Missouri soon, someone needs to find him."
"No need to, I'm here," Mark said coming out to the living room. "Anyone have any smokes?"
"Bon does," said Malcolm.
"Nah that was my last one. I'll bet Angus does."
Angus stared at the sleeping girl in front of him. Her hair fell in her face and he had to brush it away again. She was very young looking, not even eighteen yet. Angus wanted a better look at her eyes but being closed did him no good. Her chest moved slowly up and down as soft breaths were exhaled. Her hand twitched a bit and Angus decided she must be dreaming. He was just about to put a hand to her face as someone took him out of his trance.
"Angus!" Bon and Phil yelled at him. Angus pulled his hand away and turned to them.
"W-what?" he stuttered.
"Mark wants a smoke," said Bon. Angus cleared his throat and turned back to the girl.
"They're uh, on the table." Mark grabbed the pack and opened it.
"Only one left? Yeesh Ang, stingy today," Mark joked.
"Shut up Mark," Angus joked back smiling. He stood up and headed for the bathroom. "Who's been tramplin' the bathroom door?" he called out.
"Mal did it!" Phil laughed.
