Chapter Twenty-Seven:

Cecilia:

Max had given Caleb a jersey with his name on the back before his game. The stadium was a tad chilly so I put a long sleeve on and his jersey on top. He also had on these tiny baggy beige pants and tiny converse. Baby and toddler clothes are so small and cute, I love it.

A grey beanie was on his head to try and tame the wild curls he possessed. Max had straight hair and my hair was always as straight as a board. I have no idea where Caleb got his curls.

Caleb looked around in his seat excitedly. Our seats were near the bench and they were quite comfortable and too big for Caleb.

"Where's daddy?" Caleb asked again and I pointed on the field.

"He's on the field playing." I said. It was a little bit over halfway through the game and Max had scored. He was playing really well...it's about damn time he began playing good.

Someone on the other team was down and I watched as Max turned to face us. He looked tired and he glanced at the ceiling and lifted the front of his shirt to wipe the sweat from his face. I sucked in a breath as his torso was visible to everyone on our side. Max had a nice body, k?

He dropped his shirt and placed his hands on his hips as he took a few breaths. He ran his hand through his sweaty hair a few times which made it stick up in a few different directions.

Finally when the game was over everyone in the stands began to leave. Caleb was getting a little restless. Although Max's team had won two-one, Caleb didn't have an interest in soccer and the fact that he sat down for twenty minutes without whining was amazing.

"Where's daddy?" He asked placing his hands on the back of the seat and looking behind us. Max approached us and lightly hit Caleb with his towel. Caleb turned and smiled at him as Max walked away.

"Daddy!" Max called holding out his arms.

"Let daddy change first, buddy!" Max called before disappearing. Caleb pouted and sat down and stared at the ground angrily. I laughed and stood up and held out my hand for him.

"Come on, let's go wait for daddy." I said. By now the stands were cleared as some of the guys gave autographs in a few minutes and a lot of people left to avoid traffic.

Also we had to wait because it takes Caleb five minutes to walk up a flight of stairs and lately if you try to help him up he will throw a fit.

We got into the main area and a bunch of people were waiting for guys to come out and Caleb tried his best to run off but I held on to his little hand.

"Mommy!" He said angrily. He stomped his two little feet at me and I stared down at him.

"Caleb Maxwell. Do not stomp your feet at mommy." I scolded and he stared up at me.

Before he could run off again, because that is what Caleb does- I scooped him up.

"Let's look over here." I said pointing to a few brightly coloured machines. I set him down, trusting him as I reached into my purse and pulled out some change to get a drink for him.

"Daddy!" I heard him say and literally just as I turned he was running towards the direction of the fan group.

"Caleb!" I called watching him run. Honey, you wouldn't think that a little toddler would be fast but he was gone. I jumbled my purse, diaper bag and drink and went after him. He was suddenly lost in my sight and my heart began to beat like crazy.

My head frantically whipped around until I heard a chorus of 'Aws' coming from female mouths. I froze and went through the back when a security guard stopped me. I could see Max bending down to pick up Caleb and I looked at the security guard.

"That's my son." I said frowning.

"I will get him." He said in a snarky tone. I glared at him and he turned and whispered something in Max's ear. Max turned and smiled at me and nodded. The security guard came back and nodded for me to proceed.

"That's what I thought." I said sticking my tongue out slightly. Childish...I know.

"Hey doll." Max said smiling down at me. I smiled and looked at Caleb who was curled into Max's shoulder.

"Caleb, daddy has to do some autographs. Come on." I said holding out my arms.

"No." He whined curling into him even more. I sighed and Max laughed.

"I got him." He assured.

"You sure? I'm so sorry, Max." I whispered.

"Sorry for what? You did nothing wrong." He assured pressing a kiss to my temple.  I smiled and stood further away and leaned against a wall. I watched as Max signed autographs of jerseys and pictures with Caleb tucked onto his shoulder playing with the collar of his dress shirt.

"Is that your son?" I heard someone ask and I glanced up to see a few teen girls looking at Caleb.

"It is." Max smiled while signing stuff for him.

"He's so cute!" One said.

"What's his name?" Another asked.

"How old is he?"

"I thought you weren't married?"

"Thanks, his name is Caleb and he is almost fourteen months and I'm not married." He said continuing to sign.

"I think that is his mom." One girl said pointing towards me. Max glanced my way and smiled.

"That is his mother." Max assured.

"It's okay, he is probably still single." One assured.

"Libby are you stupid? He kissed her head, did you see how he looked at her?" One girl said smacking poor Libby on the side of her head. I couldn't help but laugh and shake my head at them. I saw Max laughing as well as he moved on to more fans.
