Chapter 1

Stella's POV:

My eyes flashed open as soon as the incessant beeping of my alarm clock rang out. That damn thing was going to be the death of me, every time it went off, I think my eye started twitching.

Forcing myself up, I got in the shower for about five minutes, I mostly used this time to rinse off, warm up and then contemplate my life decisions for about four out of the five minutes I was in there. Once out, I did the trudge back to my room, passing by Stephen as I did. He was just waking up and rubbing his face while yawning as well.

Getting dressed was another blur, I don't think a day went by where a Whitecaps hat wasn't on my head, covering my braided hair. It was always a little dreary in Vancouver and this time of year, I constantly worried about rain fall. Also, I don't know about anyone else, but I always ran cold, which meant a long sleeve and jeans everyday with the coziest shoes I could have. Once I was ready, I went downstairs to see my stepfather already in the kitchen preparing his coffee and breakfast.

My birth dad left my mom when Stephen and I were only five and six years ago my mom married Maxwell - my stepdad. Nobody called him Maxwell everyone called him "Max". He was in the MLS and he played for the Vancouver Whitecaps. He was extremely talented and overall, he was a great guy. I was eleven when she married him and I called him dad all the time. He was also younger than our mother but that never bothered any of us.

"Morning." I smiled taking the coffee from his hands before he had a chance to drink it and he looked at me for a second, making a face at me taking his coffee before letting it go.

"Hey Stells, did you sleep well?" He asked.

"I did. Did you and mom get home late?" I asked. Like I said, mom was older than Max. She had Stephen and I with our biological dad when she was around seventeen-eighteen. I love my mother but she said that she made sure she found someone who could..."take care of us" while she went to medical school. Don't get me wrong, I am so proud of her for doing that but sometimes, she needs to choose better wording.

"I would have stayed out later but your mother had to get to work early this morning." He yawned.

"The busy life. I'll see you later." I said while grabbing my keys as Stephen stepped down the stairs. Stephen and I took turns driving to school each week. Mom insisted that him and I drive together always. Also, our school required you to pay for a yearly parking spot and mom made us share the space.

Once we got to school Stephen headed to his bitch of a girlfriend, Natalie and I made my way to Cecilia and Stiles. Cecilia and I had been friends since pre-school. We were inseparable and we played lacrosse together. I was captain and she was assistant captain. Literally nothing could tear us apart.

"Hey Cece." I smiled while opening my locker.

"Hey Stells. Where's Stiles?" She asked referring to our other best friend.

Suddenly we heard a loud drop and we turned back to see Stiles picking up his lacrosse helmet and stick. People looked at him confused as he jumbled the pieces of equipment in his arms while trying to make his way over to us. Cecilia and I only laughed as we shook our heads, this wasn't unusual for Stiles to say the least.

"He said his breaks needed to be done so he took his bike." Cecilia giggled. I shook my head and placed my backpack into my locker and grabbed my English books along with Frankenstein, we were reading it for this semester.

"Hey, I think my mom and dad are going out tonight, you want to come over?" I asked. Cecilia and I always slept over at each others houses during the middle of the week.

"Stephen won't mind?" She asked.

"I think he has soccer." I frowned while looking at the ground, Stephen loved Max and was following in his footsteps literally and to be honest, I know Max was over the moon when he realized how good Stephen was and what he wanted to do..

"Alright, I could use a movie night." She smiled as Stiles dropped more things next to me as he attempted to open his locker.

Cecilia's POV:

"Fuck, I can't do it Stiles." I groaned while tossing my pyjamas into my bag to go over to Stella's house. Stiles would be coming over too. I mean all of us have been friends for so long, our families knew each other so well. No one minded when we came over in the middle of the week and neither of our families cared that Stiles was in the middle of the "Stella and Cecilia Sandwich" as they called it.

"You got to tell her at one point, Cecilia. He's not even her real dad." Stiles noted while swirling around in my desk chair. He looked bored and I can't blame him, we've had this conversation for the last two years and I think I was starting to sound like a broken record with him.

"She calls him dad and everything. I can't do it." I said shaking my head as I held open the flaps of my bag that I was bringing.

"So, you are just going to bottle it all up and hide it forever and settle for less in the future?" He asked.

"A superstar like Max would never date a high school senior like me. Hell, I am even assistant captain in lacrosse. It's not worth it. He is married to a doctor and he is living the life, Stella and Stephen's mom is gorgeous and she probably does things to him that I could never do." I said laughing at the last part.

"Gross, Cece." He cringed and I laughed.

"Am I wrong?"
