Chapter Twenty-Two
Cecilia's POV:
I changed into a black dress and a pair of black heels in my office. Anne had Caleb and Max had left around noon because he had practice. I walked out of my office and shut the door and locked it. When I turned Max stood near the garage, he had on a crisp blue dress shirt and grey pants. The top three buttons of his shirt were undone and he had a bouquet of flowers.
I smiled at him but his eyes weren't on my face. I laughed and walked forward and his eyes snapped to mine.
"Sorry." He apologized and I smiled. He was like a seventeen year old asking his high school sweetheart out and bringing flowers.
"Here I brought these for you." He said pushing them towards me. I laughed and took them.
"Thank-you Max, they are beautiful." I said lightly smelling them.
"You ready?" He asked and I nodded. We walked outside and I pulled down the garage and placed the lock on and followed him to his car. I stopped once I saw the familiar symbol on the back.
"Is that a Jaguar?" I asked.
"Yea. After Katherine left I bought some cars." He shrugged acting like it was no big deal. I shook my head and got in while laying my bag and flowers in the back seat. While we drove to the restaurant I shamelessly sang along to songs on the radio and Max simply laughed at me.
Once we arrived Max took my hand without even thinking twice.
We walked in and the blonde waitress immediately smiled at us. She wore a short black skirt and a tight black shirt with a small apron tied around her waist. Her eyes fell on Max and she licked her lips and I frowned.
"Hello Mr. Andrews!" She said happily and I frowned while glancing at Max who just smiled politely.
"We have a reservation for eight." He said completely ignoring her preppy tone. Her smile faltered but she picked it right back up.
"Right this way." She said. Max smiled at me but grabbed my hand and we walked into the room where other people were having dinner. She walked us to a booth and I sat across from him.
"So I am Cindy and I will be your waitress for this evening, can I start you guys off with something to drink?" She asked.
"Could I get a Molson?" Max asked and she scribbled it down onto her pad of paper.
"Of course." She said and she went to walk away and I cleared my throat and laugh.
"I will take a rum and coke darling." I said smiling at her and she nodded before walking away. I turned back to Max and we both laughed slightly.
"You get that often?" I asked.
"Yea, especially since the word got out that I was divorced." He answered.
"I'm sorry about what happened between you and Katherine." I said looking down.
"Yea, it sucked. But she didn't love me." He shrugged.
"Why? Like how did you start getting that impression?" I asked curiously.
"Well for one she was at work all the time. She also got annoyed with me quickly, if I didn't put my fucking shirt in the hamper or if I left my coffee cup in the sink and then whenever I went to touch her she would back away and say she was too tired." He said and I felt my muscles tense at the idea of Katherine being able to have Max all to herself. Cindy the waitress came back and sat our drinks down.
I took a sip and the alcohol burned my throat slightly. I haven't really drank much since the night of the party.
"She left you for a surgeon, what's he look like?" I smirked resting back. He pulled out his phone and I laughed and he chuckled.
"You're looking at him on facebook, aren't you?" I grinned and he slid over his phone. I picked it up and looked through the photos. The surgeon had blond hair that was tied back and he had a sharp jaw line and soft brown eyes. He was cute, but Max was more attractive.
"How old is he?"
"Thirty." Max answered.
"He probably wants to start a family with her, and she just left her two own kids." I said disgusted while handing back his phone.
"She has been trying to call both Stella and Stephen but they won't answer. They are both really upset by what she did." He said and Cindy came back and asked if we had any ideas on what we wanted.
"I haven't even looked at the menu." I chuckled picking it up.
