Running with the pack

"I mean, I know we're technically half wolf, but is it really necessary to feed us dog food for breakfast?"

"Kiya, shut up." Maven hisses.

"I mean, just look at it! It's lumpy but has the consistency of goo! How it that even possible? It's either gonna have lumpy chunks or be gooey." I whine, inspecting the steady stream of gooey-lumpy-mush falling from the boring, stainless steel spoon and landing back into my boring stainless steel bowl with a disgusting slop that splashes over the rim and onto my boring, stainless steel tray in thick, pale blobs.

"Kiya." Maven warns, but since when have I listened to him?

"It looks like Vampire C..."

"Kiya Rose!" I roll my eyes and drop my spoon back into the bowl, watching it slowly sink below the surface. Much too slow to be healthy, surely.

Heavy footfalls sound behind me until the Wicked Bitch of the West is heaving her smoker breath down the back of my neck. I resist the urge to shudder, mostly because the smell is almost as bad as the feeling. I don't know how the changed wolves stand it if their noses are more sensitive than mine.

"Is there a problem here?"

Maven looks at me out of the corner of his eye, begging me not to. On any other day, I might have ignored him, but we have plans tonight and I don't want to get punished for anything that might take me more than twelve hours to heal or finish doing, so I decide to bite my tongue.

"No, madame." I huff out.

Madame Wart-Nose snorts, "Omega," As she dismisses me.

Now, to other wolves, that would be the ultimate insult, however, I AM an Omega and have no issues admitting it, so really, joke's on her. Actually, most of my jokes are at her expense which is probably why she says this next part instead of the easy dismissal I thought I'd earned.

"The Prince's have an outing planned for the evening, you will come to my office once your chores are done to collect their papers that must be proofed and those that need to be written before tomorrow at eight. Do NOT write the same answers for both or your punishment will be much worse than the last time you pulled that little stunt and embarrassed your future Alphas. And I am adding your name to the cooking list for tomorrow so ensure your morning routine is complete before breakfast. Understood?"

I growl slightly, but one look from Maven had me covering it up in a cough, "Yes, Madame."

For the rest of our free hour this morning, she goes on to pick on the rest of the Omegas and hand out our tasks. Usually, she simply points to a section of the room, issues a bunch of chores, then points to another side, issuing more orders to the people on that side and so forth. Mostly, Maven and I sit together, hoping to be grouped together and laugh quietly at the way her arm flab flies around as she points and shoots orders left, right and center (Literally).

Let me break it down for you a bit here. All wolves are born with a natural dominant/submissive nature that determines your rank, usually the same as your parents. Like Humans, how their parents may carry the gene for blond hair but if both parents are Brunette, chances are you will be too. That's like our ranks, most are the same as their parents but some are slightly different. Supposedly, That Alpha of a pack can be determined because he/she has absolutely no submission in their wolf. Obviously, they say the opposite is true of an Omega, we have no Dominance according to the unholy assholes above.

You probably already know that, in the werewolf world, the Alpha is the leader of the pack, the Luna is his/her mate and, unless challenged, their oldest child will inherit the title. In our case, both twins will inherit the title. When they turned 18 and went through their first shift, they had to challenge each other as wolves but, in true twin style, neither one could overpower the other, so they decided to co-reign rather than continue the challenge until both our heirs killed each other. I guess, a pack with two Alphas would probably be more powerful as long as they can work together properly.
