"You're dead." Maven declared with a shrug.

I shove the laundry basket and his "oomph" of pain from further down the tunnel was enough of an apology to me even though I couldn't see him.

"Thanks for the vote of confidence, dick."

"Damn, you're violent Kai. I'd have thought those twins would be working the tension out of you by now."

I trying to shove the basket again but this time he's prepared and the basket doesn't move.  After a few more attempts, he chuckles, "Done yet?"

I huff, "For now."

The rhythmic click, click, of the wheels rolling down the track begins again and gradually, we enter a section where the lgihts are working so I can see him. The twins promised they'de work on helping the Omegas but they said they have to warm the pack up to me before they can warm them up to the idea of assimilating all the omegas into the pack house. I don't really know if that's what I wanted. I mean, we never really wanted to be a part of a pack if they treat people the way they've treated us but the twins seem convinced it's the only course of action. I've been trying to get a feel for how the omegas feel about it before I make my decision. It's easier said than done since I can't outright say anything, I don't want to give them hope and then rip it away if I've misplaced my trust in the twins. Only Maven knows about what we're planning.

So, until such a time as the Omegas are not the underpaid staff, I've been helping out in the mornings where I can. The twins think I'm having breakfast with them but in truth, by the time I get downstairs, everyone has finished breakfast (Not that I'd go down earlier anyway since that's when Albatross makes her announcements and assignments for the day. I have a feeling they'd be pissed if they found their 'princess' doing laundry runs at seven in the morning through the bowels of the pack house).

"Seriously, though, are they..." He clears his throat uncomfortably.

"Are they what?" I demand.

"You know... are they taking care of you."

I gasp, "What? Are you seriously asking me about my sex life?"

"Gross! Now way! The last thing I want to be thinking about is you with any type of sex life!" He groans.

I sigh in relief before chuckling, "But you just said..."

"I know what I said!" He sighs and the clicking stops.  He turns around to look at me, resting his arms on the rim of the basket, "I meant like, are they looking after you, you know? Are they good for you?"

I shrug, thinking about it, "I think it's more like they're too good for me."

He shakes his head seriously, "Kiya, trust me, it's the other way around. Omega or not, I think they know it too. I figured out a long time that no guy deserves you. I just want to know if those two pricks are at least trying to be worthy of my girl."

"Aw." I gush and he laughs.

"Shut up, brat."

I chuckle and try to continue pushing the basket but he's still holding it steady, "Mave, C'mon we've still got another dozen baskets. Alex and Wyatt are going to beat us if you keep holding us up."

He levels me with a serious look, "You didn't really answer my question, Kai."

I shrug, "I don't know what to say. I mean, they're really great in like, a conventional way I guess. I mean, they've been teaching me about the pack and are totally devoted to my safety, you know?"
