The crepuscule was a beautiful sight to see through the front windshield of my mother's car, the pink purple and yellow colors mixing perfectly in the sky above. I could see that as the sun began to set and the colors dimmed, night was about to begin and so was our new lives.
We sat there in silence, admiring the wonderful capabilities of sky. I smiled to myself before she looked over at me, an aura of pain surrounding her beauty. I met her eyes sympathetically before speaking.
"Dad called," my voice was low and timid as I told her this information. I was scared of what her reaction would be and what I got, was not at all what I expected. She faked a smile, almost purposefully trying to make me feel guilty. I was only trying to work with her now because my father told me to and if I spent my whole life resenting her, then it really wouldn't help out in the end. Either one of us could die and be spent at each other's funeral, begging for forgiveness and I didn't really want that to happen between us. I had to let my anger go some other way.
"Oh yeah, what did he say?" She seemed interested as she turned off the car and turned to face me. The wonderful thing that I honestly adored about my mother was that she never held a grudge on anyone, she was always nice to the people she cared about, unless of course you made her angry. There was good in her when she really knew she had to make up for a mistake but I guess I was just so used to the bad she had done that her good meant merely nothing to me.
"Just that he misses me and hopes I come to visit. Anyways, he said not to be so hard on you and I have been very hard on you recently so...I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize just because he told you to. I know you hate me and if you want to go back with him then we can-"
"It's fine." I shook my head and put my hand up, dismissing her thought. "I love you mom and I know things don't work sometimes. Maybe he just wasn't your mate and this new guy...what was his name again?"
"Christian."
"Christian might be the one for you. But he's not taking dad's place."
"I understand that Alexia, but he's my mate and this is our new pack so you're going to have to get used to this new thing somehow."
"I know that."
"So you'll try?" She asked hopefully, a small spark of happiness showing in her eyes. I nodded once and forged a smile.
"I'll try."
"Good, now are you ready to meet your new pack?"
"He said he misses you, mom." She opened her mouth to say something but the words were lost somewhere in her swelling heart. "He said he feels like a piece of him is missing and all the pain and hurt I caused you, he felt it too. That's why he told me to try my best to make you happy, so I can make him happy. That's love mom, you were his mate and I don't really think he'll find anyone else. Not anyone who completes him like you at least. I just miss the love between you two and I wish it didn't have to happen this way. I wish it could've been fixed, you know?" I kept watch on the nothing in front of us, reminiscing the day my father taught me how to protect myself and the day I got my tattoo that marked me a part of the pack. But I'm no longer in that pack. I have to adjust to a new one and I would try, just to make them happy. "It's alright though, let's go meet everyone." I exited car and she followed me quietly before taking the lead.
"Anne, I'm so glad you could make it tonight." He smiled kindly at the both of us as we took a seat on the three cushioned sofa. By the amount of homes and space this part of the woods had, I knew that this was a decent sized pack, but not possibly bigger than my father's. "And you, you must be the one she told me all about. Alexia, correct?"
