Life is different when you don't feel anything, you can't possibly live a mundane life without emotions. You can pretend to not have them, to be cold hearted and mingy but in all reality, you still feel. Me, on the other hand, I actually don't have any emotions. I'm dangerous when I'm in love and indomitable when I'm heartbroken. The reason being is: when you're supernatural, not only are your strengths and other 5 senses heightened, but so are your emotions. I despise emotions and I didn't quite plan on coming face to face with any of them any time soon.
Without emotions, one could only do so much but to kill time. School was one of those "minute munchers"; 6 hours of my day with my mind on anything else besides my emotionally abusive ex, my parents that left me for dead or the dying Lia at home. In this educational house, Economics, Pre-Calculus, AP Chemistry and the rest of my full schedule wasn't really enough to get me by and sooner or later, I would need another resort.
I watched her from across the hall as she shoved a few things into her locker, dropping her sketchbook unnoticeably as she chatted with Haylee. Zack was off somewhere else, but the only thing on my mind were his words.
"She's fair game."
And with this, I approached her.
They made me feel as if I was intruding, freezing in position and halting their colloquy. I bent down to retrieve her collection of animated and vivid caricatures, holding it in my hands and smiling as warmly as I could. They were still, so I assumed it meant it was time for me to speak.
"All right?" I asked kindly as she took it from my hands.
"What does that mean?" Haylee spoke instead and I glared at her before rolling my eyes.
"I wasn't talking to you."
"But I don't know what it means either," Alexia shrugged, trying her best at vanishing the hostility between Haylee and I.
"It's like, how are you?"
"Oh, I'm terrible really," she stated with an actual grin on her face.
"Then why are you smiling?"
"I don't know, why aren't you?"
"Okay you two, enough of your fluff, class starts in three," Haylee interrupted.
"Fluff?" I inquired.
"It's like, flirting," she imitated my accent with a mock shake of her head.
"Flirting?" Alexia's eyebrows furrowed together at the thought.
"Class?! Doesn't anybody care about class nowadays!?" Haylee emphasized this whole class thing and I chuckled, watching as she grabbed Alexia and dragged her to second period AP English, which we all had together. I followed behind them at my own leisurely pace, quietly humming to myself and taking as much time as I pleased to get into the classroom. I still hadn't encountered Zack and I couldn't help but to wonder what he was doing and where he was hiding. It didn't matter much though, because his abscense meant my present. The gift of which of course was, Alexia.
When I entered the lecture room, Haylee was sitting across from Alexia, flipping through her sketchbook. Where was Zack? And why wasn't Haylee sitting beside Alexia?
"Well, are you going to sit?" Alexia gestured toward the desk beside her and I silently took a seat, staring confusedly at the empty space where Zack should have been. Seconds later, he entered and sat beside Haylee.
"Where were you?" I whispered.
"Uh, fucking, duh," the corners of his lips turned upward into a small smirk at my reaction. "Kidding, I went to talk to Mr. Morales about that chem test. I got a 53 on it so, yeah. Why, did you miss me baby?"
