Ever since Mikey said I was his mate, I was quick to query all my surroundings. I remenisced my father's heartfelt fairytale of him and my mother, the day they spoke the word "mate". She rejected him at first but through a series of fortunate events and my father tripping over his shoe laces, she allowed him to bite her. She was healed with a tattoo of his initials, a pretty one that she was in the process of getting removed.

When two mates are ready, the male bites the female and she is marked with a tattoo of some sort. What bothered me, was the fact that my mother was marked but not with my father. I thought they were supposed to be mates. I just didn't understand how she denied his undying love. Aside from her, I felt I may have been doing the same. I think I was rejecting my mate.

When Mikey looked over at me and spoke the word "mate", I was beyond abashed. Had I actually imprinted on him? If so, when did I? I wasn't sure of my emotions, but I knew I wasn't in love and I didn't believe in the whole "mate" concept. What if I liked someone else?

It was now Saturday and the thoughts still had not banished my mind, so I took it upon myself to rid them or at least...distract myself from them.

"Alexia?" Haylee asked, interrupting my inner conflict as she sat upon her bed.

"Yeah?" I asked back, watching as she observed her painted finger nails. Maybe a sleepover wouldn't take my mind off of it, but it was worth a shot.

"Can you paint my other hand?" She batted her eyelashes and I sat beside her, laughing lowly and grabbing the nail polish. I took her right hand and placed it onto my lap, beginning to paint each nail as perfectly as possible.

I liked Haylee and I loved how her parents turned into happy pets at the sight of her actually having a friend. I didn't think we would be friends but yet there we were, hanging out and pampering ourselves before a girls night out. It was silent while I painted, well at least until she broke it.

"Can I ask you something?" She inquired, tapping her bottom lip with her left index finger. I replied with a soft hum and she couldn't help to laugh before asking, "Do you like Jordan?" At that, my eyes widened and I almost ruined her pinky nail. I quickly finished and closed the bottle of nail polish, setting it on her night stand.

"No," I lied.

"Yes you do. You guys are always flirting in class."

"Not true."

"Right," she pretended as if she had believed me while holding her right hand out to the fan. "What are you going to do with your claws, missy?"

"My claws?" I sat eyed her suspiciously. "What?"

"Your nails," she pointed out with a look of curiosity. "What color do you want?"

"Oh uh...I dunno." I shrugged, eyeing the rainbow of nail polishes. "I don't really paint my nails anyway."

"You will today."

"You're much more girlier than I'd expected," I snickered and she rolled her eyes, a smile still playing upon her lips.

"I can't help it. I miss having a friend, my last one uh...she moved away." I heard her heart skip a beat and I knew she was lying. I never let a lie slip past me on my watch, I always wanted to know the truth. This was because I was loyal to anyone and there was no reason to lie to me; ever.

"You're lying." I said blatantly, waiting for the honest truth. I searched her hazel eyes in attempt to let her know that I'd listen and understand, but I had forgotten that she wasn't a dog.

"She died in a car accident." And it skipped again, her heart rate increasing as my stern look intimidated her.

"Still lying."

"She killed herself, okay? There, now ya know." She threw her hands up in cede, checking to see if her nails were dry as she stood.

"Why?"

"Look Alexia, I don't really want to think about the whole situation, so can I just see what you're wearing tonight?"

"Why?"

"So I can pick the perfect color to go with your nails," she shrugged and I finally dropped it, trying to pretend the whole conversation had never happened. I retrieved my clothes and she smirked knowingly to herself at the sight of it. "Are you going to where your leather jacket?"

"Yeah."

"Then we shall paint them black," she grabbed the black bottle of polish and began to paint my nails. "What movie did you want to see?"

"Oh, that scary movie, I forgot the name..."

"Devil's due?"

"Yeah that," I agreed.

"Awesome, thank god we'll have someone to hug if we get scared."

"You mean we'll have each other, yeah?"

"No, I invited some people." My face became hot and my mouth dropped, only two names came into mind and I hoped I was wrong.

"Haylee...who did you invite?"

"Zack and Jordan of course, why wouldn't I?" She finally finished and grinned at me, gesture soon beginning to fade when she saw my expression. "Alexia, what? I thought you would like it if they came along."

"Girls night out, not double date!"

"It isn't a double date, we're just hanging out," she stood, "They'll be here in like two hours, I'm gonna get ready."

"Haylee!" I objected and she ignored me, grabbing her choice of wear as she danced off into the bathroom. I grumbled and buried my face in my hands, shaking my head and preparing myself for what should and definitely would have been an eventual night.

We were both dressed and sitting in front of her large mirror; her painting her face with makeup as I struggled with her flat iron to do my hair. It's only been an hour and 30 minutes and I still couldn't fix the sea of waves on my head. Only half of my hair was complete and I was too lazy to do the rest.

"Can't we stay inside and watch netflix?" I whined and she shook her head, finishing her mascara before looking over to me.

"God lord, child!" She snatched the iron from me and stood. She began to work the iron easily through my hair, straightening it to perfection. "You're lazy, you know?"

"I know," I smiled graciously, tilting my head back as she continued. Once she finished the last strand, the doorbell rang and my heart dropped. I gawked at my new appearance, taking the sight in and admiring myself. Damn, I looked good. She shut off the hair utensil and ran to grab her jacket, sliding it through her arms and running down the stairs. "Haylee, wait!" I shouted and quickly retrieved my leather jacket, picking up her lanyard and trailing behind her. When I got down the stairs, I only heard two voices, Zack and Haylee's, but Jordan's scent was definite. I slowly approached and smiled at the three of them.

"Wow," Zack went first. "You look hot." I bit my lip and waited for Jordan to speak but it took a while, because he was too busy staring.

"I...like your hair like that, you look really nice," he spoke with poise and shoved his hands in his pockets.

"Thanks guys, but don't get used to it," I giggled and put on my jacket. "So whose car are we taking?"

"Mine," Jordan raised one of his hands from his pockets and dangled the keys in his fingers, "Ready?"

"Yes," I nodded and crossed the threshold of Haylee's house, all of us following Jordan out to his silver Lexus HS. "Shotgun!" I yelled playfully and got in the passenger side seat, Zack and Haylee weren't too reluctant to get in the back. Jordan got in and turned the keys, quickly driving off to the movie theater.
