It was Sunday night, game time for our Bakersfield Bulldogs. I begged Zack to leave me home and allow me to bathe in my jealousy but he seriously insisted on bringing me to the stupid football game. I "needed air" and he was planning something secretive, I just felt it. We searched the stands for an empty spot to sit and were preferably "blessed" that Haylee was waving her arms and inviting us over.
"I'm starting to think you two are doing more than just that AP Chem, you cheeky bastard," I smirked but he only rolled his eyes, taking the lead over to Haylee and having a seat. I sat beside him and ogled the crowd once more, just to make sure.
"Dude, calm down," he reassured me before whispering, "Haylee said she's with him tonight anyway," he threw his head back in laughter at the fact that one little sensory emotion had found it's way into my heart. It wasn't funny. I elbowed him in his stomach, causing him to bend forward in pain, "Mother fuck."
"You know I get bad with stuff like this."
"I know, but that doesn't mean punch me."
"I didn't punch you," I spat, staring ahead at the away crowd. They all dressed in school fleeces, hoodies, or sweatpants. Their color, a shitty green. I was taken aback when I heard someone whisper my name, gawping when I looked across the field to see Alexia flailing her arms up at me. She was underneath the stands and I could see her perfectly between sneakers and Adida sandals. I peered over at Haylee and Zack, making sure that I wasn't the only one seeing that. "Zack, I'm going to the bathroom."
"That's nice," he replied, eyes and mind too focused on Haylee. Well, at least he was over Alexia. I stood up and made way down the stands, finally on the sidelines and wondering how I could ever make it across to her. I squinted my eyes again to see that she was no longer there.
"Over here," she giggled, tapping my shoulder before running away. I followed her into the school building where she continued to run. "Catch me, Jordan!"
"But Alexia," I breathed out as I jogged down the halls, following her up the three flights of stairs I took her to when I asked her on the date. She finally stopped, back facing me as she caught her breath and bent over, hands on her knees. "How did you even get across the field without me--Don't ask questions," she finally turned, a mischevious smirk written on her lips as she inched closer to me. "Zack said that Haylee said that you said that you were with Mikey," my heartbeat picked up when her small hand cupped my cheek. She wasn't acting at all like who I've come to know, and I was sure she would deny this on Monday.
"Well I'm not with Mikey, now am I?"
"No, you're not but," I softly pushed her away. "You didn't speak up...on Friday and-No! I would've! But she wouldn't let me!" She was angered at whoever she was and I was believing to think that she was literally crazy.
"Alexia."
"What?" She snapped.
"Who is she?"
"Who is who?"
"Oh my god," I grabbed her hand. "I'm taking you to the hospital, right now. You're mental."
"I'm not mental, Jordan," she pulled me into her, her back now against the wall.
"Holy shit, you're strong," I breathed.
"I know," she cupped my cheek once more and brought me down to her height, kissing me over and over again. I gave in easily and kissed her back, pressing my body against hers and groping at her wais beneath that red jumper. She hesitantly pulled away and set her head against my chest, "He's not my boyfriend."
"What is he? Your brother?" I queried sarcastically and she scoffed.
"It's not like it's complicated, it's not a relationship even, I just...I really can't explain it."
"You don't have to, don't worry," I put her mind at ease about the whole thing and nuzzled my nose into the nape of her neck, breathing in the scent of her blood and fighting the urge. We stood there, frozen in position, even as I spoke, "You like me, yeah?"
"Of course." I cleared my throat and fixed my posture, looking down into her sparkling eyes. "Thought we established that."
"Just making sure," I backed away and shoved my hands into my pockets. She peeled herself from the wall and scratched her head, "Do you want to come with me somewhere?"
"Sure, where to?"
"Coolest place in Bakersfield, follow me," I ran down the stairs and she followed, to my impression, keeping up. "How fast can you run?" I looked over at her to see her wearing the 'you don't even know' face. "Let's race?"
"How can we race when I don't even know where we're going?"
"Because I'll win regardless, sweet cheeks," I winked and continued running but she managed to stay right beside me. Soon enough, we were both in a greenlanded meadow, nothing to see in a straight ahead view but the trees, grass and little flowers. It looked just the same as it did, many many years ago.
"Tie," she spoke as she observed the place, "Wow," she breathed out, acerbic, "It's beautiful."
"Not as beautiful as me," I retorted and we both chuckled.
"You're so stupid," she nudged me as she looked up at the sky, all the basic constellations shining down on us. "I fucking love the sky," she gawped and I smirked, watching her in awe.
"Why?"
"Just so much up there, so so much. Nebulas, Galaxies, other planets and universes. We're one in a billion, you know? Sometimes I like to think there's aliens."
"Aliens?"
"Yeah, why not? You'd be surprised what could exist." I dug at that and shook my head in disbelief.
"Next you're going to tell me that Vampires, Werewolves and witches exist, yeah?" She shifted her weight onto her right foot and stared down at the Aconitum, gulping and shrugging casually.
"I don't know, what do you think?"
"I totally think they exist."
