School was not a choice, option or decision; it was the unlawful compelling of young kids and teenagers through duress to learn things that would not whatsoever help any of them out in life. I rolled around under my sheets until I fell on the floor to be met by Buddy, who was thankfully doing great. I kissed his nose and removed my blanket, standing and shutting off my alarm that had forcefully brought me out of slumber. I dragged myself into the bathroom, taking a refreshing shower to wash the weekend dirt off of me.

I allowed the dew drops of water to trickle upon my skin that was catching a tan under this Californian sun. The exhaustion and tension slowly found itself down the drain as I lathered on my Jasmine smelling body wash. I hummed to my own tune and danced around in the shower until I heard my mother call my name.

"Alexia?"

"Out in a minute!" I quickly finished and stepped out, tiptoeing into my room without a towel and jumping when I saw that she was waiting for me in my room. "Mom!" I hid myself as much as possible with my two hands and she laughed, shielding her eyes for my sake. I retrieved my towel and wrapped it around me, giving her permission to look as I searched for an outfit.

I pushed through multiple hangers of clothes until I decided on a knitted ruby red sweater and a black skirt. I topped it off with a skinny brown belt around the skirt and black heart patterned stockings. I dressed up and sat beside her to pull on my black combat boots.

"No!" She shouted, aggravation laced in her voice. I knew she missed dressing me up, but damn.

"Mommy!" I whined, "I hate heels," She ignored my statement and intruded my closet, retrieving a pair of black wedges and handing them over to me. I groaned in annoyance and put them on, just to make her happy. "What'd you come in here for anyways?" I huffed.

"To ask you about Mikey," She peered over at me with apprehension in her blue eyes that mirrored mine.

"What about him?"

"Do you like him? When he came over he told me that-

"Mom," I fixed my hair and pulled my bag over my shoulder, walking to the bedroom door and speaking politely as possible, "It's time to go."

"Alexia, you can't ignore this."

"I don't wanna talk about it anymore," I jogged down the stairs and picked an apple off the table. I patiently waited for her to follow behind, grab her car keys and drive me to school. I knew she needed more insight on the situation but it had only been a week. Just a fucking week and this was happening? No. I decided I would let it pile up until I felt like dealing with it. She finally came down the stairs and we walked to the car together, getting in and suffering an uncomfortable ride to school together. She dropped me off and I got out, slamming the door behind me and entering the deepest pits of hell.

It was time for second period English with Haylee, Zack and Jordan. I knew what was to come as I put one foot in front of the other, walking slowly and dreading the moment I would take my seat in front of all of them. They would be sure to ask me about Mikey and I would be sure to leave out the fact that we were 'Mates'.

I took my seat beside Jordan and stared helplessly at the Haylee who sat across from me. How and why the hell were she and Zack getting so close? She arched a brow and gazed disapprovingly at me, opening her backpack and pointing to the belongings I had left behind at her home.

"You totally ditched us! And even though you sat right in front of us, got out at the same time as us, you said nothing!" She whisper yelled, holding her head down and pretending to take notes when Ms. Edwards shot us a glare. "Shady," she added.
