Dwarves!” exclaimed Legolas as everyone in the room stood up, the guards at the entrances had all frozen at their spots as if they had forgotten how their legs work.

“What is the meaning of this?!” cried my father, Nάli and Dain both cowered in fear at his sudden out-burst. Corcedeth glanced at me as if to ask for help, but I could not speak; a lump in my throat had risen almost to my mouth and it felt as if my tongue had suddenly stuck in place, unable to move. “You there – boy – can you perhaps explain why there are two unsightly dwarves in the king’s palace?”

The four guards who were stationed at the threshold had suddenly come to their senses and seized both the dwarves and Corcedeth; I could see fear in his panic-stricken face. In the corner of my eye I could see Lord Elrond and Thranduil staring wide-eyed in shock; from their expressions I could tell that this was one of the last things they were expecting. It was not heard of for dwarves to sneak into an elven residence unseen, the only way that would be possible if they were helped by an insider, and I knew that was just what my father was thinking.

“I-I was just—” stammered Corcedeth weakly, I could see he was going to end up in a lot of trouble; dwarves were not exactly classed as friends of the elves. Nάli and Dain were both struggling helplessly in the grip of the guards.

“Never mind,” said my father dangerously as he eyed the dwarves in deep disgust. “You can explain later, but for now, just lock them away and let me finish entertaining my guests—” The dwarves broke into angry yells as they tried to describe why they were there, the guards began to drag them out the door as Corcedeth shot me another pleading glance.

“WAIT!” I screamed as I leapt forward, the guards froze in their tracks and the entire Council stared at me in complete surprise.

What are you doing?” whispered Legolas urgently.

“Let Corcedeth go, it was me who let them into the kingdom!” I exclaimed, confidence slowly building up in my stomach. The Guards looked over at my father confused, as if they were unsure what to do. He just stared at me in complete shock; I could tell he did not expect his own daughter to have been part of something so disloyal.

“W-what are you talking about, my child?” he asked.

“It’s not what you think; they are here to help us, all of us!” I explained quickly as Corcedeth looked over at me worriedly. “I said they could stay hidden with Corcedeth and I until you were ready to speak with them. I knew you would not have wanted to be troubled at the moment as you had visitors.”

“Yeah, that’s right!” agreed Dain as he nodded his head vigorously.

“—didn’t want to disturb you—” repeated Nάli, but cut of when my father glared at him furiously.

“I did not ask you to speak, dwarf,” he said in distaste.

“Celeborn, what is this?!” asked Thranduil angrily as he strode over to my father. “I did not expect this when I agreed to—”

“They are here to warn you against the forces of Mordor,” interjected a soothing, but dominant voice. It was the voice of my mother. Corcedeth and the dwarves looked confused, but I smiled gratefully; my mother had the gift of being able to read the mind of others and could understand what most could not. “They have the most important news to inform you.”

“Yes, we do—”

“The Nazϋl have attacked the city of Moria, they are at large once more, your majesty,” explained Dain quickly as the Guards kept a strong hold on him as he tried to rush forward to the king. “You must assemble an army quickly before it is too late, you must find a way to stop them!”
