I shook my shimmering blonde hair that reached my waist as I climbed barefoot up the steps that lead to the main palace that was built in the tree tops. I had now changed into something that a princess would be expected to wear; it was a long, floor length, glimmering blue dress that was hand crafted by the elves centuries before I was born and a small evenstone diadem that was placed upon my head. My bow and arrows were safely away in my room that was built upon one of the smaller trees as I was classed as a lesser member of the royal family.
I knew my mother was away somewhere in the forest, as she always was at this time of day, so I was sure that my father, Celeborn would be able to speak with me. I made it to the top of the pearly white steps that were carven into the tree and met one of the king’s guards who was stationed by the threshold.
“Princess,” bowed the guard, I bowed in return.
“I wish to speak with my father.”
“I am sorry, but I cannot allow that madam, your father has important business to attend to,” he replied and I frowned.
“The matter is urgent, I must speak with him now,” I said more firmly than the last, the guard bowed again and I straightened up.
“I will ask him first, Princess,” he said as he turned and disappeared behind the door. I waited a few moments until he appeared again at the entrance.
“He says you may see him.”
I bowed again in thanks and entered the palace where my father stood in the sunlight with his back to me, talking to three other elves that I did not recognise. I cleared my throat and he turned around, a smile set upon his flawless face.
“You three may go, I will speak with you soon,” Celeborn said dismissively, the three elves nodded and rolled up a scroll that they had seemed to be pondering on. “Ninothriel, you wished to speak with me about something urgent?”
“Yes I did father, it is urgent,” I replied shifting my gaze from his shining green eyes and sleek blonde hair to the floor. “It involves Mordor.”
“Mordor?!” exclaimed my father in surprise and he took a step closer to me. “You have heard the rumours then?”
“Yes I have father, but there is also something else,” I began to explain what had happened to me earlier that day, about how I was practicing my archery in the forest. I could tell he did not approve of me wandering about by myself, but he remained silent as he listened to what I had to say. I told him about the spider that I first encountered and how more of them had appeared, chasing me across the forest in the tree tops. I mentioned how Corcedeth had come to the rescue and helped me to fight off the mass amount of spiders. He smiled when I told him how I had killed two of the spiders with only one arrow; I had purposefully mentioned that part of the story. I explained what happened afterwards when Corcedeth and I had escaped and made it to the stream where he told me about where the spiders had come from and the rumours that he had heard.
“Are the rumours true?” I asked my father and I could tell by his expression that he was fighting with himself, trying to decide whether or not to tell me.
“There has been quite a lot of evidence lately that Mordor is, once again regaining power, the spiders also prove that this is a possibility,” he answered solemnly as he sat himself on a seat behind him. “But I do not want you to worry until it is for certain.” I nodded in reply and I strode over to the open balcony that was carved out of the tree, I could feel my father’s eyes on the back of my neck.
“What business are you attending to?” I asked curiously as I stared out of the balcony out to the kingdom of Lӧrien. Elves were gliding gracefully along the forest floor, completely oblivious to what may be happening in the land of Mordor.
