"Stiles, is this really a good idea?" Scott stopped us at the edge of the clearing. We stood in front of the two story castle. It had seriously changed over the years. With tall glass windows and light brown bricks, it was elegant. For a man with a love for privacy, he sure liked to stand out.
"Ye a little faith." I lifted my hands up in defence and smirked. I had kept in touch with Derek and I was hoping that seeing Scott would spark something inside him and convince him to help us. He had turned into a real family man and, to quote the man himself, "werewolves were the last thing he wanted to deal with". But it's worth a shot.
We walked quietly up the patio and I knocked on the door.
"No." As soon as the door opened, it was closed again. Without even a glimpse of his face.
The five of us blinked confusedly at each other before I reached forward and knocked again.
There were muffled voices and footsteps before the door swung open to reveal a grouchy Derek and a grinning Helena.
"Stiles!" She pulled me in for a hug. I wrapped my arm around her lightly, not wanting to hug her too tight because of her belly. "Come in, come in!" She smiled brightly at my friends and me. As we made our way inside, Derek swiftly made his exit.
"Sorry about him, you know how he can be. But who are your friends?" She gestured us into the spacious living room which contained large beige couches, a rustic coffee table and a television.
"Well this is Scott, Malia, Lydia and Kira whom I think you've met once before."
We all took a seat.
It never failed to baffle me that such a spritely young woman would end up with Derek (who was basically the human embodiment of grumpy cat), let alone pregnant with his child.
Helena greeted my friends and took a slightly ungraceful seat on the couch. Her large belly was obviously a difficult thing to manoeuvre.
"Man! You must be due soon, you're so big!"
"Yeah, a month to go! And also, as much as that sounds like a compliment, it really isn't." She winked at me, "But what brought you lovely bunch here today?"
"Well actually we were hoping to talk to Derek...?" Scott chimed in.
"No." A faint manly voice sounded from the distance. Derek was always a welcoming host.
"Sorry, one moment." Excusing herself, Helena scuttled off into the hallway.
"She's so nice! Never pictured Derek with a girl like her!" Kira exclaimed quietly with a grin that matched Helena's.
Her comment made me smirk as I knew they would soon see why they made such a great pair. The muffled argument between the married couple grew louder.
"GO!" Her voice boomed and a brooding Derek suddenly appeared in the doorway.
"Stiles, what do you want?" His voice remained completely monotonous. I swear this guy hit puberty at, like, 5 years old, his voice was so damn deep.
"Well nice to see you too." Malia lifted a brow but Derek matched and raised her seriousness by a bajllion.
"I won't ask again."
"Derek, we need your help." Scott whipped out his adorable brown puppy eyes and I prayed Scott would convince Derek. Last thing I needed to deal with was death, just when Lydia and I had started things off again.
This thought sent my mind reeling.
That kiss we shared outside my house had been heaven. It was like the universe was finally repaying me for all the dates I had missed because of work.
