Helena and I stood against the car, watching the pack retreat. We cheered quietly as they wandered off into the woods, defeated.

"Well, that didn't take long at all." Helena joked, "Are they always this short?"

I laughed at her question.

"Well, no, just when Kira gets jealous, apparently."

We climbed into the car to wait for the others. I began to shut my door but stopped when I saw four wolfs break off from the rest of their pack.

"Hey what are they doing?" I asked Helena. The two of us watched as they sniffed the air and followed an invisible trail.

"Lydia, they're headed for Stiles." She nudged me and I looked to our right to where Stiles was curled up in a tree. We stood at the top of the hill with Derek's car and he was to our right, half way down. The wolves were coming from the bottom of the hill but we were still closer.

"I'll be right back." I jumped out of the car.

"Lydia, I don't think that's safe." Helena looked at me uneasy.

"It's fine. We're closer to him than they are. I'll just grab him and bring him back here, then we'll leave." I reassured her and walked off.

I quickly dodged through the trees towards Stiles. I attempted to go as quietly and as quickly as I could to avoid either me or Stiles getting caught by those wolves.

When I reached the tree Stiles was in, I saw the wolves in distance. They were only a few hundred metres away and we needed to move now. His head was rested against a branch and I knew he was nodding off.

"Stiles, get out of the tree." I whispered and waved him down. He shot me a quizzical look but climbed down.

"I thought I was coming to you guys? Is the fight already finished?"

"Yes and there's wolves heading our way so we need to go." I ordered and turned back the way we came.

We silently made our way back to Helena and the car, attempting to crunch as little leaves as possible. We were only 50 metres away when a loud, obnoxious noise resonated through the night air.

"Sh*t, Lydia your phone." We stopped in our tracks as I searched my body for the device. I pulled it from my pocket and saw that Klaus was ringing me.

A howl came from nearby and I turned to Stiles. The terrified look on his face matched that on mine. I flicked the sound off on my phone and we sprinted to the car.

A single pair of heavy steps was behind us. Then two, then four. They were easily gaining on us.

We could see the car ahead, Helena hanging out the passenger door waving at us to run quicker. We increased our pace as much as possible.

I flicked my head around and saw that only three wolves were chasing us. I could have sworn there were four.

We were almost at the car when I saw the fourth wolf come out of the forest to our right. He was headed straight for us... for Stiles.

Without thinking, I shoved Stiles forward with a single push, out of the way of the wolf.

Stiles's P.O.V

"Lydia!" I screamed. The wolf pounced, missing me thanks to Lydia. Only Lydia had been right beside me.

He tackled her. I watched as she screamed; her arms flailing as the wolf had her pinned. Helena had shut her car door, trapping her inside and me outside. The three other wolves had us surrounded.

A howl was released followed by another scream.

I heard tearing of skin and crunching of bones. I rushed to her, but a wolf jumped in front of me. Backing up, I attempted to block out the screams agony.

I had no choice but to watch as the wolf bit and scratched the love of my life. My eyes moistened at the thought of losing Lydia and being completely unable to help. I closed my eyes.

I pictured her hair and the way it had smelt the morning that we kissed. I imagined what it could have been like to have that smell around me every day. And that same smell in my kid's hair and that same smile. And of course her eyes, filled with hope and purity.

How ironic that she would die here, in a cemetery.

A growl drowned out Lydia's screams and I opened my eyes to see Scott tackle the wolf off of Lydia.

Relief.

The wolves cowered at the sight of Scott's glowing red eyes. Malia and Kira rushed to Lydia, who lay motionless on the grass. Derek and Scott cornered the wolves into the forest.

Breaking free of my shocked trance, I ran to the girls.

"What happened?" They cried. I shook my head at them, not wanting them to see me cry. Scooping her up in my arms, I carried her to the car. Everyone was silent; the only noises were that of a creaky car door and faint growls in the distance.

I laid her across the back seat and climbed in. I lifted her head slightly and rested it on my lap. I kept my eyes down on her emotionless face. She was pale.

I found her arm and placed my fingers against her wrist. Her pulse was faint but it was there.

I heard doors open and everyone was in the car. I could hear the worried sighs of Kira, Scott and Malia in the very back of the car.

The car was dead quiet, as if we were just waiting to hear Lydia's shallow breathing stop. A tear rolled down my cheek and I made no effort to wipe it away. I feared that if I took my fingers away from her pulse; that it might stop forever.

"Stiles, what happened?" Kira questioned quietly and I released a sob. I felt Scott's hand on my shoulder but it did little to console me.

"She saved me." I whispered, following it with a sniffle, "the-the wolf was coming for me and she shoved me." That short sentence was all I could say without breaking down completely.

We sped towards the hospital, Derek running every red light that tried to stop us.

"I'm so sorry." Malia's voice cracked and I looked up. Malia rarely apologised, let alone cried.

"It's not your fault, Mal." I heard Kira say. Helena was turned around in her seat, watching the scene behind me. I didn't want to look but by the facial expression on Helena; I could assume Malia was crying.

This only encouraged more tears of my own and soon the car was just a sobbing mess.

"We're here." Derek announced and sprinted from the car. We saw him arrive, pushing a gurney and an angry doctor following him. He pulled the door open and I hurriedly got out of the way to allow him to lift Lydia onto the bed. Once the doctor saw the state of the young girl, he hurried over to help.

"What happened?" He questioned quickly, wheeling her inside the hospital. He waved over multiple nurses who aided in rushing her down the hallway. They started removing her clothes and touching parts of her stomach.

"Animal attack." Derek stated, even he looked shaken up by the experience

"We need you to wait here." The doctor nodded and pushed her through a swinging door.

I rushed after him, no way was he taking her anywhere without me.

"Sir, we need you to leave." A nurse stopped me in my tracks.

"No. Where's he taking Lydia? She needs me." I screamed and attempted to run passed her. Another nurse came over and put his hands on my shoulders. For a moment I was embarrassed about the tears and snot dripping from my face.

"Sir, there's nothing you can do for her. They're taking her to surgery. What she needs you to do right now is go out there, and wait." He slowly guided me back out the doors. He patted my shoulders and sent me an empathetic smile. I sniffed and nodded at his words.
