STILES

I stood on my tiptoes, bouncing from each foot trying to see over the small crowd of friends flowing into the hospital room. Somehow I had been pushed to the back but clearly was the one yearning to see her the most.

Once all were congested inside, I shoved my way through and dashed to her bedside. Landing harshly on my knees, I gripped onto the mattress.

"Lydia?" I dared to look up at her face, afraid of what would look back at me.

Her face was pale but she had managed a cracked smile whilst looking down on me.

"Stiles." She released a shaky breath of relief, which I returned with the largest grin I could construct.

She was okay. She was breathing. She was smiling!

"I missed you." I said the words with no fear. My voice cracked but I didn't care.

I was too glad. She had left my life for too long and I'd just gotten her back, I was not about to let her leave again. Not on my watch.

She laughed at me. Oh god, she laughed. The melody filled my ears, soul and heart.

"So, where's Kira?" Her voice was hoarse. She turned to look at the ring of friends surrounding her bed.

I admired her side profile. Even lying down, after a near death experience she was breath taking.

"She had work, but I'm sure she'll be around when it finishes." Scott grinned at her.

"And Malia?"

No body answered. The room echoed with shuffling of feet and awkward sighs.

"I think she had, like, a family emergency?" Helena broke out with, quite frankly, a horrible excuse.

"She left her oven on at home and had to go back and turn off before... ya know... her house burns down." Scott's rambling trailed off followed by an embarrassed face palm on Derek's part.

"She left because she feels guilty, doesn't she?" I watched her face fall, and it broke my heart.

I understood Malia's actions but at that moment, I hated her. I hated her for making Lydia feel like this.

I instinctively reached for her hand, which sat gently on her hip bone.

She turned to me with a sad smile.

"Hey guys, can I have a moment alone with Stiles?"

My breathing hitched at her request, it was unexpected and my chest filled with worry and excitement.

The others nodded and filed out into the hallway.

"Okay. What's going on?" Her voice was firm and she managed to slightly shift her body to face my crouching one.

"Wait, what? With Malia?" She shook her head and point to the plastic chair behind me.

"Grab that and sit yo as.s down boy."

I hurriedly dragged the chair to the bedside and plopped down in it. I kept my hands tight and awkward in my lap. Did I do something wrong?

"What's wrong?"

I shrugged and shook my head at her question. I was seriously so confused.

"Stiles I know something is eating at you, I can tell."

I had been stressing myself about the Klaus situation but I managed to push that to the back of my mind, just for today at least. So I could focus on Lydia and her getting better.

I don't know how she noticed since even I wasn't thinking about it.

"You're in the hospital, Lydia. Of course I'm stressing."

"Nope, I'm not having any of that Stilinski. What. Is. Wrong."

She saw straight through me, and that scared me a little.

I sighed, tossing and turning over whether to spill the beans. Dad and Kira recommended that I wait but I knew she wouldn't let me out of this room unless I told her.

And clearly she could tell when I lied.

Oh god, I guess I'm telling her.

"Lydia..." I sighed, "I spoke to one of the nurses yesterday and she told me about your uh... medical history."

"What? Isn't that like... against the law?" She had become nervous and I knew I just needed to get it all out on the table.

"Yes but I am glad that she told me. Because well... we have some worries and-"

"Stiles, it's really not any of your business. I mean its my medical history." She snapped slightly at me and I immediately had the urge to apologise.

But I powered through.

"Lydia. She told me about your various unexplained visits to...various hospitals."

She huffs and turns away from me.

My heart cracks a little. But nothing I can't handle...

"Lydia, was Klaus abusive?" I lowered my voce, keeping my tone as soft as possible.

Just speaking the words killed my inside so I can't imagine what they were doing to Lydia.

But when I heard her sniff, I knew they weren't having the intended affect.

"Well, that's really not your business is it?"

I could tell she was trying to be strong, and she was strong. But right now, she was allowed to be upset. It didn't make her weak.

And I needed her to know that.

"Lydia, if you need help, that's okay. We can—"

"Get out." She whispered.

"Lydia-"

"Stiles. Get. Out." Her voice picked up

"Are you serious?"

"Get the hell out, now. Stiles."

I stood up, pushing the chair back with my calves.

"Are you seriously kicking me out?"

"Are you seriously still here? I said get out! Get out Get out! Get out!"

Lydia was screaming at this point.

And the cracks in her voice broke my heart.

And as much as it pained me, I took a deep breath and walked out the door.
