Chapter 7
“Get out of our fuckin’ house!”
The loud, gruff voice of the man downstairs echoed throughout the house, awakening Melodine from her stupor. Her eyes opened to black and white walls, taking in everything of her surroundings. Then small flashes of memory gave her the explanation of why she was lying on a bed—it was a very soft bed. She sat up on the bed and was about to get up when the door opened with a bang and was shut with a slam. She cringed at the noise.
The man with the loud voice appeared before her. All six foot-two inches of him. His black hair was ruffled and his green eyes were a blazed. It was those green eyes that attracted Melodine. Upon closer inspection, she realised he had emerald green eyes rimmed with gold. She had never seen green eyes like that before. He came closer to the bed and sat down on the edge, facing her.
“Hello, you awake now? I didn’t think you were the kind of person that would faint,” he said almost to himself. The voice that had spent years in her head was a physical being in front of her. Melodine could not believe this. On the one hand, she was relieved that she wasn’t crazy but, on the other hand, it was quite scary to know that she had been sharing her life, her thoughts and her feelings. Overall, Melodine’s head felt lighter. It was like a huge boulder had been removed her. She always felt like there was something lingering in her head bringing along with it the headaches. Now, these unbelievable, insane events have explained it all.
“Err hi,” Melodine said meekly at a loss for words. The awkward silence fell in between them creating an invisible barrier that broke with the whistling of the man next to her.
“I bet you have a lot of questions. Ask away, I owe you that much for saving me,” he said gently with a smile that could outshine the sun.
“So you’re one of those magic people.” His laugh reverberated the room, it sounded like church bells, heavenly to her ears. The loud sound made his eyes sparkle and made her feel calm, losing herself in the laughter. She had not felt like this since ever; all worries disappearing in a blink. Fading in to the air. No more pain.
“Yup, and you’re a witch,” he replied to her statement. In Damon’s opinion, she sounded like a little kid when she called them ‘magic’.
“W-w-what?” she stuttered, flabbergasted.
“You’re one of those ‘magic’ people as well.” He mimicked her words, using his hand to make air quotes. Magic? Witch? Melodine never thought—even when she met Jason—that he would belong in the same category as them. Apart from the Voice in her head she never believed herself to be magic. She laughed. The laughter coming from her didn’t sound as sweet as the laughter that came from Damon. Melodine’s laughter contained a hint of malice. Who were they kidding? They were ruining her life with their meaningless magic. She had acknowledged that magic did exist. It was impossible not to believe after being in Jason’s presence. That required a certain a level of ignorance.
“Me, a witch? I don’t think so. I have not a magic bone in my body!” she exclaimed.
“Oh, sweetheart, don’t fool yourself. You’re not even the nice witches you see in movies. In fact, you are a wicked witch. Have you seen the movie, ‘The Wizard of OZ’?”—he didn’t wait for a response, he continued without waiting for her response, assuming she has watched it—“ Well, you’re the wicked witch of the west. I don’t see auras but I see yours. Has Jason told you about it?”
Melodine stumped from his answer and a little hurt told him that Jason only mentioned that she had two auras: one belonging to her; and, the other belonging to Damon.
