Tavena
"We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided."My cell phone vibrates me awake. I reach for it, holding the bright screen to my squinting face. I set it for five minutes later.
••••"Tavena. Wake up." My grandmother opened the blinds.
I was blinded by the tapping-sunlight hitting against my face.
I yawned, fully opening my eyes.
"Grandma. I was already up." I whined.
"It's didn't seem like it." She said, "Now go get dressed."
"For what. I don't have any place to be." I sat up from my bed.
"Vena you have a interview today. Remember?"
"Oh shit. I totally forgot."
"Watch your mouth na'." She looked at me, "Hurry up, I have to drop Mani off at school and I have a doctors appointment today." She kissed my cheek before walking out of the room.
I walked into the bathroom, starting the shower up.
I brushed my teeth as I watched the steam fill the bathroom.
I took off my clothes and put it in the hamper.
I stepped into the shower, jumping a little bit from the hot water.
I washed my body and watched as the soap went down the drain.
I stepped out of the shower and grabbed my towel before making my way to my closet.
I didn't have clothes for an interview so I had to work with what I had
I put on my white blouse, black jeans and threw on my all black chucks.
"Hurry up na'. " My grandmother yelled from downstairs.
"I'm coming Gammy." I yelled back.
I put my hair into a high bun and made my way downstairs.
"Quit rushing me lady." I kissed her and Mani on the cheek.
"You take forever." She replied, "Now lets get going before we're all late."
We walked out the house and made our way to the car.
