"There's a new guy starting today." Scott says and I turn and look at him.
"That's great. Why is that important to me?" I ask turning back around to put my books in my locker.
"His family just moved here from New York." Scott continued and I roll my eyes.
"Great! Another city boy! Bet he doesn't even know how to check the oil in his car! Let alone how to go muddin' and saddle a horse properly! How do you even know so much about this guy anyway?" I ask and Scott chuckles.
"Firstly, it's hilarious how annoyed you're getting over this guy. Secondly, he's Malia's cousin." Scott explains and I roll my eyes.
"I swear if he's just like Malia was when she moved here I'm gonna pay to move them back to a city." I groan and shut my locker.
We start walking to math class when a guy bumps into me from behind.
"Hey!" I groan.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to! I'm new and still trying to make my way around this place."
I'm about to raise my voice at him but I look up at his face and I go silent. He's hot! Like a beautiful sex god!
"Stiles?" Scott asks and nudges my shoulder.
"New? You must be Malia's cousin!" I smile and he nods.
"You know her?" He asks and we both nod.
"She's a good friend of our's. What's your name?" I ask and he smiles.
"Derek. Derek Hale." He smiles at me.
"This is my friend Scott. And I'm Stiles." I smile back.
"Stiles? As in Stilinski?" He asks and I nod.
"Yea, why?" I tilt my head confused and he chuckles.
"Your dad is the sheriff. He welcomed us this past weekend. Brought us a pie and told us that his son Stiles had made it." He explains and I nod.
"Well, we better be going. It was nice to meet you and maybe we'll see you at lunch." I smile and he smiles too.
"Yea, I'll see you later."
We part ways and Scott starts chuckling.
"Still want to help them move back?" He asks and I promptly punch him in the arm.

I pull into our lane way and make my way to my parking space beside the house. I see Jasper standing in his pen next to Angel and Rose. He would be out in the field but the far post came up during the last storm we had and now there's a hole in the fencing.
"Stiles! Get dressed in something nice! We're going for dinner!" Dad says as I walk in the front door.
"But dad, I gotta re-shoe Jasper. And the far fence needs fixing."
"Fix it tomorrow! We're expected there at 5:30." He groans and I huff.
"Those three have been cooped up since Saturday dad. It's Wednesday. I need to fix it!"
"Fine! How about I just give you the address and then when you're done you can just head there afterwards. It shouldn't take too long."
"Ok. I'll go get started. If I shoe him first and then drive out to the fence. I should be there for 6:00. Is that ok?" I ask and he nods.
"I'll make sure dinner is delayed a bit."
"Where are we going anyways?" I ask and he smiles.
"The Hale's. They just moved into town."
"Hale? Yea! I met Derek today. He's nice." I nod.
"Nice? As in personality wise or on the eyes?" He smirks and I blush.
"Get going. I'll see you in a little bit." He says grabbing his keys and heading out the door.

I finish fixing the fence and head back up to the house. I quickly run up and have a quick shower before throwing a pair of jeans, a plaid shirt, and my clean boots. I run back down to my truck and head on my way for the Hale's house. They actually don't live too far away from us. I pull up and park next to my dad's car.
I walk up to the front door and knock, waiting for someone to answer.
Eventually a lady in her mid 40's comes to the door.
"Hi! You must be Stiles!" She smiles and I nod.
"I'm Talia, come in!" She smiles and leads me into the living room where my dad is sitting down on the couch. There are four other people. One being Derek, then an older man I assume is his father, and then two girls. One looks to be older than me and the other around the same age.
"Well it's about time! You said 6:00!" Dad frowns.
"What can I say! Jasper was being stubborn, and the fence post I cut was too long so I had to run back up to the house to cut it. Then I smelt like Joe's pig farm next door so I figured I should shower." I reply and he laughs.
"I'm just kidding. Jasper is ok though right?" He asks and I nod.
"Just didn't wanna lift his feet." I sigh.
"Anyway! Sorry about that." Dad laughs and Talia continues.
"Stiles this is my husband Mike, our oldest Laura and our youngest Cora. I would introduce Derek but I've been told you've already met." She says and I nod.
"Yea. He ran into me." I smirk and Derek shoots a playful glare at me.
"You know it was an accident. Well accidentally on purpose. Malia shoved me into you purposely."
"What?! Why would she do that?" I laugh and Derek shrugs.
"She ran away before she told me the rest. The little bitch." Derek chuckles and I laugh harder.
"Derek! That's your cousin you're talking about." Talia glares and he frowns.
"I'm sorry Talia, but she is a sneaky little thing if I do say so myself." I chuckle.
"Come on, dinner is ready." Talia smiles rolling her eyes.
We head into the dining room and sit down, myself across from Derek.
"So Stiles, John was telling us about how you like to sing. Think you could sing something for us?" Laura asks and I chuckle but shaken my head.
"Unfortunately not. I don't sing anymore." I sigh as I think about why I stopped singing.
"The boy's gone hermit. He doesn't hang around too many others other than his school friends and Jasper." Dad sighs as I eat a piece of chicken.
"Thanks dad for making me sound like a loner! Scott comes over like five out of seven days a week! And I go out with the gang the remaining two. I'm not a loner. I just like being alone sometimes." I explain and Derek looks interested by my answer.
"Totally something a loner would say..." dad whispers and they all laugh, even Derek.
"Derek?! What the hell?! I know we've only known each other for like a day but still man! You're my friend! Stick up for me!" I whine and Derek laughs but pats my hand.
"Ohhhhhh! Poor baby!" He fake pouts and I stick my tongue out at him.
"Oh shut it City Boy." I huff.
Once we're done with supper, Derek and I sit in the living room while everyone else is still in the dining room. We just sit there and talk for what feels like hours, but not in a bad sense, a good way.
"So, if you don't mind me asking, who is this Jasper?" Derek asks and I smirk.
"Why do you need to know?" I ask and he shrugs.
"I don't know. Who are they? Your girlfriend? Boyfriend? Sibling? Friend?" He asks and I chuckle.
"He's my best friend. But he doesn't go to school." I explain and he looks confused.
"Why don't you come by tomorrow and meet him?" I ask and he smiles.
"Sure. I don't have anything planned anyway."
"Tomorrow it is then!" I smile. We just sit and enjoy the quiet between the two of us. I feel a small flutter in my stomach as Derek's pinky brushes my hand.
"Well Stiles, we should likely be heading out soon." Dad says appearing behind us.
"Yea. Still got some stuff to do at home. I'll drive you back to our place tomorrow, then I can drive you home after." I sigh standing up and grabbing my jacket from the closet.
"Oh, and City Boy, I don't suggest you wear your good clothes tomorrow. You could get a little dirty on the ranch." I smirk and he blushes.
"I won't. Good night Stiles."
"Good night Derek."

The next day after school, I drive the two of us over to my house. We get out of the car and I lead him into the house. We set our stuff in my room and I take a tie from my closet.
I lead him back downstairs and blindfold him.
"Ohhhh! Blindfolds. Kinky." He laughs and I smack him as I lead him outside.
"You aren't gonna kill me or anything right?" He asks as we get closer to the stables.
"No! That'd scar Jasper." I laugh and he sighs.
"Are we almost there?" He grains playfully and I chuckle.
"A few more steps." I lead him until we're in front of Jasper's pen.
"Ok! Here we are!" I smile and he pulls off the blindfold.
"Jasper is a horse?" He asks and I frown.
"He's not just a horse. He's my best friend!" I pout and he rubs my arm as an apology.
"He's beautiful. How old?" He asks moving to pet him.
"Five. Angel there, she's my dad's. And Rose at the end, she's my mom's." I explain.
"Where is your mom? He asks."
"She left." I mumble. It's not a pleasant memory.
"Sorry. I didn't want to make you upset." He says and I smile slightly.
"It's fine. So, do you wanna go for a ride?" I ask.
He nods and that's how we spend the entire afternoon and evening.
I saddle up Angel and help him get up.
"You ok there?" I ask as he looks a little nervous.
"Yea. It's just I haven't ridden a horse for years." He smiles nervously.
"You know how to control one?" I ask and he nods.
"I did have family outside of New York you know." He laughs.
"Ok, well then, try to keep up." I say and Jasper and I take off across the field. I hear Derek pick up his speed and soon enough he's riding next to me.
"Not to shabby city boy." I nod and he smiles at me.
We slow down to a trot and I turn to look at him.
"Wanna see somewhere cool?" I ask and he nods.
"You're not gonna kill me are you?" He asks and we trot over there.
"What is your obsession with me killing you? If I had to do a life sentence who would help my dad take care of the ranch?" I ask and he nods.
"Sounds justifiable." He chuckles and I laugh.
'God your laugh is beautiful. Just like you.' I think to myself and we reach the bush.
"C'mon, follow me." I say moving a tree branch and he follows closely behind me.
Eventually we come across the waterfall Derek's mouth falls open.
"Don't have something like this in New York do ya city boy?" I asks and he shakes his head.
"This is beautiful! How'd you find this?" He asks and I chuckle slightly.
"I went for a walk one day. It's on our property. My dad doesn't even know about this. You're the only person I've ever told. Scott, Isaac, Malia, Erica, Boyd. No one else knows about this place." I explain and he looks confused.
"What makes me so special?" He asks and I shrug.
"I don't know. We'll just have to wait and see." I smile and he blushes a bit.
I get down off of Jasper and head over to the waterfall.
"Wanna swim?" I ask and he smiles.
"Oh what the hell!" He laughs and climbs down off of Angel.
I take off my boots, jeans, shirt, and my hat, then proceed to jump into the water.
He jumps in shortly after me and I laugh as he splashes me.
"City boy has been hiding himself under his shirt." I laugh in shock that he has such a nice 6 pack.
"Speak for yourself. If I had a diamond you could cut it on your abs." He blushes at the end because it is a weird conversation for two friends to have after only meeting yesterday.
•••••
I walk Derek up to his door and he's still smiling.
"I had a great time. I'm still really happy you showed me your most precious place." He says and I nod.
"Someone might as well know. And I trust you." I smile at him and he blushes.
"I'll see you tomorrow at school." He says and I nod again.
"I'll see you tomorrow." I say as I turn back towards my truck and head down to it.
I climb in the front seat and look back to where Derek is still standing on the porch. He gives a gentle wave and I wave back, pulling out of his driveway.
•••••
It's been about a month and a half since Derek moved to town, and I think I'm just falling further and further in love with him.
Unfortunately he's found a girl named Braeden. I was about to ask him out a few weeks ago but then I found him and Braeden kissing on his porch. I'm really beating myself up over not getting to ask him first.
Today's my mom's anniversary. She's been gone for 7 years ago today. Instead of going to school, I sit at home and cry. The only one of my friends who knows is Scott.
My dad had to go to work today, leaving me all alone at home to mourn.
At around noon, I decide I don't wanna sit in the house all day. I put on some clothes, my boots, and my leather jacket, and head out to the waterfall. It takes about 20 minutes to walk out there.
I sit down against a log and just break down completely.
