Automatically she dragged herself homewards.
Without knowing it, she had arrived in front of her gate. Her brothers were still in the garden. They did not notice when she ran past them because it was too fast for their eyes to perceive the movement.
In the entrance hall, she met Lynn and Nellie. They looked anxiously at her. They were going to criticize and ask about her looks but they did not have time because Brooke ran upstairs and locked herself in her room. She did not want to hurt them. She did not want to hurt anyone except for that Louis Tomlinson. She tore off her dress of and threw it on the floor.
She examined herself in the mirror. She had a dark red mark on her neck. When she touched it, it stung. Dark shadows had grown up under her eyes and her hair was tangled and full of leaves and grass.
She sat down in the big chair by the window and looked out over the hullabaloo on the street outside. People who laughed and felt good. She suddenly felt mad at them. Why could they be happy but not she? There was a knock on the door. She heard her father's voice.
“Brooke, are you in there?”
Brooke sat quietly for a moment but decided to respond.
“Yes.”
“Can I come in?”
Brooke turned her head towards the door when she heard him grasp around the doorknob.
“No no, you can’t come in! I’m... I’m naked!”
There was an awkward silence and his hand left the doorknob.
“Are you alright?”
“Yes, I promise. You don’t have to come in”, she said and tried to sound as convincing as possible.
“Are you sure? You can tell me if there is anything...”
“No, I’m fine. Honest!” Brooke interupted him.
“Alright. I’ll be downstairs if you change your mind.” She heard his footsteps disappear down the corridor and down the stairs.
All night Brooke sat there and stared out into the dark. The trees in the woods, swaying slightly in the breeze. Brooke thought about sunrise.
As a vampire, you are supposed to burn the sunshine when it fell on you. She wanted to burn to ashes in her armchair.
She did not deserve to live. Not associated with the devil. A horrible creature. Created by an even more horrible creature.
The sun began to appear on the horizon. The rays penetrated through the window. Fell on her body. But she was not turned into ashes. It felt like normal.
Apparently it was just a myth, she thought and sighed. Fucking hell. She leaned back and let the sun warm her cheeks. They were cold. Just when she was about to fall asleep, there was a knock on the door.
“Miss, are you awake?"
"No, so can you please go and leave me alone?"
There was silence for a moment, and then Brooke heard the sound of them as they walked down the stairs.
A few moments later, she heard a knock at the door. Her father.
“Brooke?”
Wow, Déja vu.
“Yes, father?”
“Are you feeling alright?”
“Yes, I just want to alone today, that’s all.”
“Are you sure?”
But please!
“Yes, I’m fine! I’m just a little bit tired, don’t you worry.”
She sat there the whole day. There was no wind outside. Suddenly a voice was heard.
"Brooke. It was supper an hour ago. Why did not you come down?"
“I wasn’t hungry.” But that was not true. She felt like she was going to die. She was so hungry, but the only thing she knew would stop the hunger was just to plain horrible to even think about.
“But you have to eat, Brooke.”
Yeah, she knew that already.
