And for tonight, she felt terrified but wistful at the same time. What had she gotten herself into?

Brooke kicked of her shoes and laid them beside her. She lifted her dress and stepped out in the water.

She had walked to a big lake that always lay in shadows under the trees so that only small sunbeams found through the leaves. Those sunbeams reflected in the water and gave the whole place a calm and welcoming atmosphear. But today, there were only clouds and the wind that kept her company. The water broke in waves and the trees creaked around her. Her hair had been torn out of her braid a while back when she had walked to the lake.

The water was cold and on the other side of the lake, there was ice on the surface. It was January though so what had she expected? The last time she had been here was last summer. And then, the water had been lukewarm and the sun had been up. But now, England was covered in the wintermood.

She walked further out in the water and it was up to her kneecaps.  The waves splashed the water up on her. Normally, she wouldn’t haven been able to be in the water because of the cold, but she could now when she no longer was human. Sure, it was cold, but she could stand it.

A thought hit her, how long could she be under the water without breathing? She had time to find out. Actually, the whole day. She walked back up on land and crawled out of her dress. This was crazy, what was she even doing?

She made sure that no one was watching her as she took of her underdress and stepped out in the water completely naked. She walked out in the water until it had reached her waist. It wasn’t really cold; it felt like air, she adjusted quickly to it.

She reached out and stroked with her fingertips on the surface. The water was so smooth and she couldn’t wait for it to engulf her.

She breathed in deeply and dived into the water. There was a complete new world down here. Everything was so peaceful and silent. She kicked with her feets and swam forward, deeper down into the lake.

She opened her eyes and was shocked. Everything was so clear; she could see everything just as good as she could see everything on land.

Always when she had swum and looked under the water, her vision had been fuzzy.

Everything was so beautiful and she could actually hear the waves on the surface, high above her. She saw a few fishes swim past her and she could hear their strokes. She floated there for a while, driven away a bit by the stream. It had almost been eight minutes when she broke the suface and gasped for air. She couldn’t help but laugh by the adrenalin rush she had. That had been absolutely incredible.

Home in her room later, she collapsed on her bed. She wanted Louis to come, but at the same time, she wanted him to stay away. He made her go wild and lusty, when he at the same time just made her want to just cry and cry. He was so confusing, and he probably had no idea about it either. He knew that she needed him in a way that she didn’t understand, or even knew about, and he used that need, because he needed her too. They needed each other.

She turned around in bed. Her hair had made her pillows and sheets wet. She sighed and sat up and looked on the little clock that lay on her nightstand. Almost 4pm. He would be there in i around seven hours.

God, she wanted him to just burst in through the door and just throw himslef at her. To love her and make her feel loved.

She got up from the bed and walked out of her bedroom. The whole mansion lay in silence. Her father and brothers was away again. And she didn’t even care where they were, as long as they stayed away.

She went through the hall but stopped when she had walked past a thick white door. Her mother’s old bedroom.

Brooke laid her hand on the golden doorknob and pressed it down. She hadn’t been in there for about two years. But she knew that the housemaids cleaned there regulary.

The room hadn’t changed a bit. The kingbed in the corner that faced the big french windows was made, even though no one would lay there. Infront of the french windows was a white grand piano. Her mother had had a passion for playing the piano.

Music sheets lay in an organized pile on the pianobench.

Brooke had never learnt how to play, but she had never really had the interest to learn it either.

She laid the sheets on top of the piano and sat down on the bench.

She laid her fingers over the keys and closed her eyes. She could almost feel her mother. Her happiness when she had played.

Brooke didn’t really have any memory of her mother at all, but it was like she could feel her mother’s spirit in the piano. She pressed the keys down and the tones spread through every nerve in her body. She pressed down another one and smiled. There was something soothing in pressing them down. And how sounds came out when you did.

     “Miss Harmon?”

Brooke opened her eye and glanced over at the door. It was Lynn who had come in.

“I’m sorry Miss, I just heard someone play the piano and then I saw that it was you.” She looked down at her feets. “Please, don’t let me disturb you.”

She was about to walk out the door when Brooke called on her.

     “Lynn!”

“Yes, Miss?” she said and turned around.

“Could you come over here for a second?”

Lynn walked up to the piano. Brooke stood up and faced her. She looked her deep in the eyes until she felt that cold feeling in her head again.

“This will not hurt, so you have no reason to scream. You will not remember any of this”, Brooke said and grabbed Lynn’s forearm. She rolled up her sleeves slowly and brought Lynn’s arm up to her face. She looked up at Lynn but her face remained calm. Brooke’s gaze fell and she prepared herself. She could not lose control again.

She bit hard and sucked up the blood that started to drip so that none of it would land on the floor. She closed her lips around the bite and sucked in as much blood as she could without taking too much.

Maybe she should kill her. That would have been pleasurable. To watch the life disappear from her eyes in that moment when she died.

Quickly she pulled back, panting. She felt the urges to jump on her again but stepped back.

“Leave now!” Brooke yelled at her and Lynn ran out of the room with her hand pressed to her arm. Brooke wanted to run after her and stop her before she could make it out the door but instead, she closed her eyes and tried to take as deep breaths as she possibly could.

That went kind of well. Exept the parts where she had almost killed her.

She had blood all over her chin and she quickly wiped it of with the back of her hand.

For the moment, her hunger was gone, as so was her worries. She understood now that her thoughts and problems only got worse if she hadn’t fed. That was good to know.

She walked up to the piano and placed the music sheets on the bench again and exited the room and closed the door after her.

He lay on her bed for hours and just stared up at the ceiling. She checked her clock regularly. What could Louis possibly be doing that was so much more important than being with her?

What was he even doing all days? Where did he even live?

She checked her clock again. Almost ten. He should be here soon.

A tapping on the window was heard and her heart skipped a beat.
